Birth: Ephraim Allen was born 18 Feb 1812 in Sanford, Maine the son of Ephraim Allen Sr. and Lydia (Furbish) Allen.^[1][2]

Marriage: Ephraim Allen, Jr. and Catherine Allen filed marriage intentions on 20 Oct 1837 in Sanford, Maine. Both are residing in Sanford where they were both born. Catherine's last name at birth appears to be Allen. She was born about 1814.^[3][4][5]

Children: The following are assumed for Ephraim and Catherine:^[6][7]

• Susan W Allen, born about May 1839. Died 30 Jun 1859.
• Lucretia E (Allen) Cole, born about Oct 1844.
• Stephen F Allen, born about 27 Aug 1851.

1840 Census, Kennebunk, Maine:^[8] This census is only a tally: 1 male age 20 to under 30; 1 female under age 10; and 1 female age 20 to under age 30. This correspondes to Ephraim, his wife Catherine and his daughter Susan at this time. One person in the home is working in agriculture. Joshua Hatch enumerated just have Ephraim on this census remains their neighbor on the 1850 Census.

1850 Census, Kennebunk, Maine:^[6] Ephraim is 38 years old; and Catherine is 35 years old. Ephraim is farming, but does not own real estate. Their daughters Susan and Lucretia are attending school.

1860 Census, Kennebunk, Maine:^[7] Ephraim is head of household living with him is his wife Catherine and their children. Ephraim is farming and owns real estate. Lucretia E. age 16 is working as a domestic and has not attended school within the last year. Stephen F. age 8 is attending school. The entire family is listed as being born in Kennebunk as is every other person on this census page which makes this information suspect.

-Joshua Hatch and family including his 10 year old son Marshall continue to be neighbors.

Death of Wife: 30 Sep 1866 Catherine Allen passed away at age 52 in Kennebunk, Maine.^[4]

1870 Census, Saco, Maine:^[9] Ephraim, age 58, is living in the home of his daughter and son-in-law Lucretia and Ivory Cole. His occupation is listed as farm laborer. He does not own real estate. Ivory is a farmer and does owns real estate.^[10]

Death: Ephraim passed away 3 May 1872 at age 60 in Kennebunk, Maine.^[11][12]

Possible reason for Ephraim passing away in Kennebunk: His son Stephen F Allen was living in Kennebunk when he married Abbie A Allen on Feb 28 1872. The 1880 Census indicates Stephen and Abbie were likely living in the same home in Kennebunk where Ephraim lived in 1860. See Stephen's near neighbor in 1880 Marshall Hatch, age 30. Marshall was living next door to the Allen's in Kennebunk in 1860. Stephen is farming, but the 1880 Census does not have a category for home ownership. Perhaps Ephraim returned to live with his son and daughter-in-law in his Kennebunk home prior to his death. ^[13][14]

Burial: He is buried at Pine Grove Cemetery in West Kennebunk, Maine along with his wife, his daughter Susan, and his son Stephen and daughter-in-law Abbie A (Allen) Allen.^[2][15]
