Biography

William D "Big William" Abernathy was born on October 16, 1768 in Lincoln County, North Carolina Colony, the son of David Harwell Abernathy and Martha Ann (Turner) Abernathy. He was the brother of Lucy Nancy Abernathy, Joseph Abernathy, Robert Abernathy, Martha Abernathy, David Abernathy, John D Abernathy, Turner Abernathy, Elizabeth (Abernathy) Perkins, Nancy (Abernathy) Forney, Moses Abernathy and Miles David Abernathy.

William married Winifred Kimbrel on January 1, 1799 in Lincoln, North Carolina. They were the parents of at least the following children:

1. Alfred William Abernathy,
2. Drury Gillum Abernathy and
3. David Addison Abernathy

William died on September 1, 1850 in Gaston County, North Carolina, United States. He was buried at Christs Lutheran Church Cemetery in Stanley, Gaston County, North Carolina, USA. ^[1]
