Just saw this photo and I know it is meant to be cheeky, but, in the area that says nothing, there are aboriginal communities. Back to the mentality that the country was uninhabited until white man arrived. It is a very negative depiction of Australia to international people. I just feel it is a bit tacky for this site. Thanks.

Hi Sue,

Thanks for your comment. I'm the one who originally uploaded the image when I founded the Aus team a few years ago. I guess I was thinking something different - I've actually spent many years living in the regional and remote parts of the Northern Territory and to me it was just a cheeky dig at how the urban-dwelling folks see us. "The place you fly over on the way to Bali", as the saying goes. (to be fair, there really isn't a whole lot out here between communitites!) I didn't consider what it implied about the people who do live here and how it might look to others internationally. For that I sincerely apologise.

Oops, I forgot I am no longer the profile manager so can't take it down. It looks like the Wizards of Aus are using a different page image anyway so I'm sure they won't miss this one. Take care.

I see no mention of dropbears, which, as everyone knows, are not koalas, man-eating or not.

A cheeky map of Australia that my husband uses as his avatar. I'm not sure where it's from, but it appears on quite a few blogs and websites in a Google image search.
