Question about William Lewis

Question

William Lewis is my 6th generation direct descendant.  I live in Alabama but will visit North and South Carolina this July.  I would love to know where William Lewis is buried and any other information about where he lived or other graveyards with the Lewis or Mourning Van Pelt (his wife) graves.

I put the information you gave into the Ancestry Library edition.

An Sons of the American Revolution application from Lester John Scheddler, Jr. of Pascagula, Jackson Co., Mississippi gave the following information

William Lewis (1740-1811) b. Scotland or Ireland d. Horry Co., SC. William was a member of the 2nd South Carolina regiment commanded by Col. Marion. he enlisted 4 Nov 1775 and was a private. He was married in 1774 to a Morning Van Pelt. I will add the information to Wikitree profiles.

I added this information to another profile [[Lewis-39110|William Lewis]] that I have proposed merging with the former William Lewis mentioned.

William and Mourning are buried in Midway Cemetery in Mullins, Marion County, South Carolina.

I also found a will with a probate date of 14 May 1811 where it lists his children. He left several slaves to his children.
