Who were his parents?

William was a merchant seaman, although the census lists him as a cooper.  Perhaps his job was to build, seal, and repair barrels used for shipping commodities. He lived near Lewis wharf, but I have been unable to confirm his relationship to that family.

Would you know if William Lewis had a middle name?
None of the documents I have found embellish the name with so much as a middle initial.
He died in about 1860 in your question and the WikiTree profile has it 1861. If he died in 1860, it was before the Civil War started, but  if it was in 1861, he could have been killed in combat early in the war.

I'm grasping a little so far.  In looking at familysearch.org , I did not find anything significant. There is a good write up about his daughter's husband at Find A Grave, but William Lewis's burial remains elusive at this point.

Thomas Lewis of Lynn, Massachusetts, was a successful merchant during the years following the American Revolution. He reorganized a portion of the property from John Hancock's estate in 1793 as Thomas Lewis and Son with three leased stores. Thomas Lewis had three sons: Thomas, David and John. Thomas assumed control of the wharf when his father died in 1809. John became heir to the property when his brother died in 1824. John and his cousin Samuel G. Lewis established the Lewis Wharf Company in 1834, and upgraded the property with stores which were among the earliest granite masonry buildings in Boston.
