My wife’s ggg grandfather Joseph Porter (b. 1778) (Porter-16175), married Dorcas Gardner (Gardner-13372) on the 10th January 1796 in Taunton, Somerset.
If this is the correct Joseph Porter, then he can be traced back a further 5 generations to Robert Porter (b. abt 1625) (Porter-16525).
However, there is a slight possibility that this is the wrong Joseph. An alternative might be a Joseph Porter born in Taunton in 1752. He had a brother William (b. 1750), and another brother Joshua (b. 1754). Joseph and Joshua married two sisters Mary Pain and Sarah Pain. Joseph was widowed in 1791 and might then have married Dorcas Gardner in 1796.
I’ve written a discussion paper outlining the pro’s and con’s and would welcome any comments that might help. Thank you. Mike Pickup (Pickup-178).
