Hi all,

I want to thank everyone who sent me well wishes for my new job as Volunteer Coordinator, and especially give thanks to everyone who emailed me asking how they can help out on WikiTree! There were a lot of you who said things like "I'm not from America, can I still help?" or "Do you have any members from [my country]?" The answer is always yes to the first one, and usually yes to the second. Other Leaders and Greeters have been noticing similar questions in G2G and from new members when they sign up. WikiTree wants your help in making us a truly worldwide family tree. What do you need from us to make this happen? Do you have ideas for outreach to genealogical societies? Want more ways to find genealogists or resources near you? Suggestions for projects? Share your ideas here. (Our Language Project handles language-related features and community building, so for now it is out of the scope of this thread.)

If enough members are interested, we'd also like to form a project to address how WikiTree can reach out to non-Americans, and make improvements to the site so we are the most appealing choice for genealogists around the world. Post here if you would be interested in joining.

Thanks!

Great stuff, Erin Breen.
I could help out with Hungarian members (-:
I'm from Australia and I have spread the word amongst my students who I teach Genealogy to. I know one definitely has joined (and entered some entries), possibly others have by now.
GeneJ, Kaye, Maggie -

If you're interested in joining, the project is up and getting started here:http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Global_Community_Outreach

*raises hand* Ooh! Ooh! I'm interested! :)

I know I'm Canadian and we're already fairly well represented on WikiTree, but I would still like to spread the word among Canadian genealogists, and I care a lot about making WikiTree more international in general.

Last week I was listening to the radio, and the newscaster was talking about the Tim Hortons/Burger King merger. He said that nationwide, Tim Hortons has around 100000 employees. Sure, we have enough Canadians here to storm a Tims and eat all the doughnuts, but do we have enough to staff every shop in Canada? I don't think so, and won't stop until we do! :D
Haha! Good goal! :D

Erin, I'm from the UK, interested in increasing awareness of Wiki tree here.  Not sure of best way of doing this, no specific ideas, but willing to help.

Hi Everyone,   I'm Scottish.   For the UK we have the Scottish Clans and the Irish Roots projects.   I've often wondered why we don't have an England or Wales project.  I certainly see lots of English volunteers and a few Welsh joining us.  Maria

Hi all,

Like Maria I'm from Scotland (as if you can't guess from the name lol) and I am involved in the Scottish Clans & Irish Roots project & Scotland category and try to help where I can with other areas of the U.K.of G.B & N.I. and its dominions, protectorates, commonwealth, Crown Dependancies & overseas territories ( I ususally forget one category). That covers a fair bit of ground lol

All the best

Billy
Hi Maria, I'm English, and I was beginning to think that only US citizens were allowed. I would be very interested in an English / Welsh / Irish / Scottish project, count me in. We may be smaller countries, but we do have much longer histories.
Hi Maria, Billy, and Tim,

The Global Community Outreach project is up and ready to go. I hope you'll join us: http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Global_Community_Outreach

Does a dual national count that is from there but hasn't lived there in 25 years?  I could help in Holland and Spain.  A fat salary, a company car, and a no questions asked expense account would also help tremendously since you asked.

Cheers!

Anyone who has an interest in places outside the US of A is welcome! I'm going to be in contact with everyone about launching a project later this week or early next. As for your requirements, I can offer you a fat celery, company cart, and an expensive account. (We're on a budget here, Vincent!)
Well, food, wheels, and talk of an exp. account, now we're getting somewhere!
Hey Vincent, come on over to the project and sign up: http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Global_Community_Outreach

Hey Erin - I am 25 years away from the USA.  I live near London England and am married to a Brit.  If being a "misplaced" colonist is of any use, I'm happy to join the project.  Yesterday, I applied to be a Greeter and after seeing the mass of information I was sent, I can see why there aren't so many Greeters!!!

Greeting is one of those things that seems huge at first, but gets so easy once you've done it for a shift or two. (That quote about spending 10000 hours doing something before you become an expert does not apply to Greeting. If you've got a friendly attitude, and can spend a bit of time reading the Greeters' instructions page before starting, you'll hit the ground running and never look back.)
Hi Nancy,

The project is ready to go. Come on over and join: http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Global_Community_Outreach

I'm in the UK. I've been a bit quiet lately but I'm always popping in and out and would love to be involved.
