What happened to James F. Breckenridge?

Breckenridges abound in Washington County, Ohio, but the family is for the most part well documented. Except for James who got mixed up on Ancestry. with a 16 year old James Breckenridge who died of dysentery Sept 11 1864 in Baltimore. My James was mustered out Sept 14 1864 in Ohio. Very much alive. And then nothing. Even FamilySearch trees had him dead in Baltimore. Any tips how I can find out what really happened to him?

Hi Joelle! There are several men with that name who show up in Ohio records: here is the link to the output of the Research tab.  Have you already ruled them out? There's the James who married Jessie Legat, the James who married Mary Davis, the James who married Lizzie Dipple, the James who married Janet Frew....

I see that the James who married Amanda McFerson already has a WT profile, with different parents, so probably it isn't him.  But have the others been ruled out?

Cheers

Thanks. I have looked at that and anything past 1860 is a question mark. I do know the Watertown cemetery has been surveyed on FAG (and is trustworthy) and if he was there it would be there. And if he’d died nearby he’d be with the family there so he probably left the area. Other than that—no clue.

A History of Washington County, Ohio, published in 1881, lists Edward's children, and says that 6 were alive, not including James. It's available on Google Books

I checked the pension indices on Ancestry and Fold3--he's not listed. That fits; almost everyone alive in 1890 got a pension.

Do you know what newspaper would have covered that area in 1864-1890? I checked Newspapers and GenealogyBank quickly without finding anything, but I'd be happy to check whether they have the relevant newspaper(s) and dig a bit more.

Thanks. It would have been a Marietta paper and neither GenealogyBank nor Newspapers.com has good coverage. Once in a while there’s a later clipping on FamilySearch. If he died soon after he mustered out which is likely, he would be with the rest of his family in the Watertown Cemetery. And perhaps he is and the stone is missing or was missed.
And thanks for reminder about the book. I have that book and forgot about it.
Cross Reference History of Ware Massachusetts and the Descendants of Jacobus James Breckenridge of the Jacobite movement.  King James II, William, is Frederick William Alexander Karl Von Humboldt, other wise Known as William of Orange, Frederick of Denmark.  James was The James that was the Navy General for Bolivia.  He is James Cook. They are Robin Hood and the Merry Men.  So Frances II that came over was the second Frances their was one before him that died on the way.  But the Wife/Queen when James II went catholic because the royal family began using protestant against the Catholic like Catholic were.  These guys have a history that doesn't stop.  We find William Sinclair Breckenridge and Joseph Cabell Breckenridge Ensign Breckenridge and Robert Jefferson this way.  I found my great grandfather in that book. They really did a 3 cups and a nut shell after the civil war, VP Breckenridge came back in after Europe.  I think they were hiding everyone in Humboldt, Co. Ca.  The tie to Humboldt really solve a lot of gaps in history.  William Breckenridge, (Bill Breckenridge) Tombstone, US Marshall for trains and stages.  He coined the term Hellorado. He I think the young look in the movie tombstone might Be Billy the Kid.  bad Bill Breckenridge was fast with his two pistols he was known for. Got along with the rustlers and had a disinterest being associated with Earl.   Earp felt the words Bill had for him were sharp.   And they picked a fight with making Bill sound gay purposely.  The attack from Earp is that he didn't hang out with him at the bars with the gals.  There is likely the surveyor of dams for Theodore Roosevelt and serving warrants Wyatt wasn't.  I would start with the Hellorado. Trace that one back to Canada and likely you will find yourself related to James in Vermont became a state the Breckenridge standoff.  A couple families move into the Ohio area mine Iowa.  If you know your elders at all. Good luck
