Filles du Roi Project looking for new members

If you have French-Canadian ancestors, it is quite likely that you have one or more of the Filles du Roy among them.

The Filles du Roi Project is a sub-project of the Quebecois Project and follows the same guidelines on names and locations.

Project members fill in bios, add sources and generally do all the actions required to make these women's profiles as complete as possible.  The eventual goal is to have them all with bilingual bios, French and English.

To join, answer this question and visit the Filles_du_Roi Project to learn what you can do to help.

Hope you get loads of new members, Danielle! Best wishes.
Hello my name is Cynthia and I would love join your group.  I can confirm 2 Filles du Roi, Ozanne-Anne Achon married to Pierre Tremblay and Lorraine Gargottin and probably a few more.  Both the Tremblay and Girard family were part of King Louis XIV plan to help settle New France
hi Cynthia, can you convert your comment to an answer please?  Meanwhile, Ozanne Achon  https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Achon-12  was not a Fille du roy but a fille à marier, who came before Filles du roi.

Louise Gargottin https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Gargottin-1 was indeed a fille du roi.  Don't know where the Lorraine comes from.
See you on the project.

Anne-Marie, il faut cliquer sur le bouton ''answer this post'' et mettre son commentaire là.  laugh

Hello! I have 10 fille du roi in my line. And 5 fille du marrier. I would love to be a part of this! Also there is a Fille du Roi facebook page….

Hi Gail, before you can join the project, you need to become a full member of WikiTree and not just family member.  You also need to be pre-1700 certified for this project,   When you have reached these points, please click on ANSWER and not comment.

As for a Facebook page, considering that META corporation is blocking Canadian news from its system, certainly isn't a place to go for these ladies.  wink

Help! I’m clueless about the pre 1700 certification. Sorry about META but I did find lots of interesting info on the Fille du Roi FB page.
One step at a time, start with signing the Honour Code to become a full member of this outstanding collective tree.  Then get familiar with the ''how-tos'' for entering your tree etc.  The marvelous thing about this format is that you can write an actual bio for your ancestors, not just BMD data.  Once you are familiar with how it works (and it's always a learning process), then look at working on pre-1700 profiles, and there will be instructions provided to do so.

Yes, I'm interested.  Though I may be descended from Judith Rigaud, someone yet to be represented on the site, I am still interested in the bigger question of why these specific people were chosen.  (Or volunteered?)  Perhaps there are no answers to be found beyond speculation among the many possibilities, but it sounds like an interesting inquiry.
by Linden Van Wert G2G3 (3.4k points)

hello Linden, Judith can be found here: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Rigaud-1   Note that she is not a Fille du Roy but a Fille à Marier, who preceded the Filles du Roy.

If you descend from her, then we are cousins.  Welcome aboard.  Our leader will get you your badge soon.

As far as to why these people volunteered or were chosen, a lot of them were hired on contracts of work for specified periods of time.  That is a frequent method for them getting here.  This applies to the Filles à Marier.  The Filles du Roy is another game entirely.

Your badge has been added Linden!  Welcome to the Project.

I would like to join to help out. I researched my paternal line back to Louis Hebert (First European land owner of Canada but not related to these ladies.) I have compared my line to the Filles du Roi list and found three (3) so far that are my ancestors. I have an article on my family history blog about these ladies.

I would like to join your project.  My paternal ancestors originated in Normandy, France and at this point I only know of 2 Filles du Roi in my line, but there may be more.  Just as a note, I do not speak French.  I hope that isn't a requirement.

hi Sharon, it's not a requirement to speak French, although it helps if you can at least read it, since most sources are in that language.  Meanwhile, welcome aboard, our leader will get you your badge soon.  Get familiar with the guidelines on the parent project page (Québécois project).
Thank you for considering me for this project but I do not read French or speak it, so I maybe better working on another project.

That's ok Sharon, just connect up your family lines with proper sources, most of the Filles du roy have their profiles already in existence, if you find that your lines lead to them and there is a missing child, let me know and I can connect them.  Happy tree climbing! laugh
