Corporal Charles B Babcock (abt. 1845 - abt. 1895) Company G 37th Wisconsin Infantry U.S. Civil War

Cpl. Charles Babcock born August 11, 1845 in Wisconsin. Son of James Babcock and Lovey (Roberts) Babcock. He died February 14, 1895. His parents moved west from Alburg, Grand Isle, Vermont to the Troy, Walworth, Wisconsin area sometime before 1850? We aren’t sure why they moved west, possibly the farm land was cheaper or the civil war issues beginning. He married Sarah M Bunker. (Date/location unknown). I believe he served in the civil war?

Possible indexed marriage record for Charles Babcock and Sarah (Sarah Mead Bunker?) There are slight spelling difference that could be transcription errors such as Charles's middle initial and substitution of "Louiza" for "Lovey" as his mother. Cursive "u" could look like ""v" and "z" would look like a "Y".  Would be nice to find original document to examine actual spelling

Interesting the FAG says married 3 times. The daughter is married to a same last name? Frank Beachtel. I am seeing she married Elder Beachtel? What is her surname or maiden name. Mead? She married a Bunker also

If this is the correct Charles B. Babcock, he entered the military as a Private and was a Corporal at discharge.

This sure looks like him. Is there any other name connecting him to his family a spouse so we can say 100% it’s him?

Thank you for making visible this info from Fold3. Great  info. Probably it is him given middle initial and Wisconsin enlistment. Without an Ancestry.com subscription some of us just can't get past the  blurry Fold3 images that taunt us, and the perky  Ad for the company, but I had an idea....

I noticed it says "Pension Type: Dependent Pension Certificate (WC)"

I am assuming the Dependent in this case is his widow and "WC" means something like widow card or widow with children.

Would it be possible to plug his widow's name into Fold3 and see if it spits out anything regarding this pension? Seems that the dependent's name has to be in the file somewhere and maybe could surface in the index; possibly this would be worth trying. She could be listed as Sarah Babcock, Sarah Mead Bunker Babcock, Sarah M Babcock, something like that.

I've noticed on other pension records that the widow's name is on it, but not this one. I'll root around a little tomorrow.

There were a number of Charles B. Babcocks that fought in the Civil War. I think two were from Wisconsin, but the other was born in 1830. There was also at least one from New York.

I very rarely use Fold3 and find it a little different to use.

I found something in "The History of Walworth County, Wisconsin." That book has lists of men who served in the Civil War from Walworth.

On page 145 under the 37th Infantry is "Charles R. Babcock"....Your fold 3 record said 37th Infantry and we know Charles B. resided in Walworth County, so it seems that probably was Charles B. Babcock and the R is a misprint.... unless Walworth has two Charles Babcocks and the second really is  Charles R. Babcock .

https://archive.org/details/historyofwalwort01beck/page/144

Also James Babcock , maybe Charles's dad is listed on page 129 in the 13th infantry. And him getting an early land patent is mentioned on page 427.

Also on page 496 Mrs. Charles B. Babcock is mentioned as the daughter of Nathaniel Meade Bunker and Phoebe Stratton Coffin.

I added the civil war info box however couldn’t find him here https://www.nps.gov/civilwar/search-battle-units-detail.htm?battleUnitCode=UWI0037RI

Although he is listed in the Wisconsin Historical Society has images of a roster for the 37th WIsconsin here: http://content.wisconsinhistory.org/cdm/ref/collection/tp/id/36535

if you can add anything to improve his profile please do so as we need sources and categories for him. Thank you : )
