Advice before merging these pre-1700 Rockett-Rockwood profiles?

Question

There is a birth record for John Rockett, however, two important documents list his name as Rockwood, his marriage and his will, but both names are used interchangeably in other places.

In his will, his signature is written as John Rockwood. Most of the marriage documents for him are also for John Rockwood, but occasionally the alternative name, John Rockett is used.

Since he preferred John Rockwell as evidenced in his will and marriage record, which name should be used, Rockett or Rockwood?

The earliest record is used, in his case it is Rocket.

The birth record spells it Rocket. That should be used as Last name at birth

Use Rockwell or whatever he preferred to use in the preferred name.

Then put Rockett, and Rockwood and any other spellings in the other names field.

One of the merging profiles should be changed to Rocket before merging.

Alternately: Reject the current merge proposal.  Then  create a John Rocket and then propose merges into John Rocket, the same end results, with the fewest merges. When you've created Rocket I can un ppp Rockett and ppp Rocket, just let me know when your set.
