Is there a way to determine if W.F. Sisk died in the Civil War?

I have limited information concerning W. F. Sisk (see his profile) and I believe he dies before the year 1870 due to his wife and child being listed with his mother in the 1870 census.

A cursory search on family history site reveals there is indeed a W.F. Sisk in the database, but is there a way to tell if he died or confirm it is indeed him?

A search on Fold3.com yielded a William F. Sisk, native  of Surry Co., North Carolina, Private, Co. G, 54th Regiment of North Carolina Volunteers (Paid). He is listed as a resident of Wilkes County, N.C. before enlistment, with a wife and one child. He died March 4, 1864 as a POW in Kalorama Hospital, Washington D.C of Variola Discreta. Interred at 10 o'clock, March 7, 1864; location of grave not stated. Hope this helps.

Does it list an enlistment date?

Thanks for your help!
He mustered in at Camp Mangrum, May 23, 1862. The description states he was 21, a farmer, 6 ft. tall and born in Surry Co., N.C. Later cards for his unit list him as a deserter; date of desertion, 12/31/63 at Raccoon Ford. The next card lists Captured 12/31/63, Raccoon Ford; committeed to Old Capitol Prison, Washington D. C., 1/4/64. Then admitted to Old Capitol Prison Hosp. 2/11/64 for bhronchitis and transferred to Kalorama Hosp. 2/13/64, diagnosis: Varioloides. Also stated he was vaccinated when young.
