Today I'm revisiting one of my old brick walls in Maine to see what everyone here thinks. I've been researching the parents and grandparents of Sarah Ann Goodwin. Here is her page on Wikitree: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Goodwin-5574
Sarah was born in 1826 in South Berwick, Maine and died in Pembroke Mass in 1861. Her parents were Moses Goodwin (1793-1865) and Mary Ann Abbott (1802-1869) About two years ago, I asked on Geni who Moses's parents were and they never found any conclusive proof.
So, I was wondering what peoples' thoughts were. Some trees have conflated him with another Moses Goodwin whose parents were Benjamin Goodwin (1754-1842) and Elizabeth Linscott (1754-1819) All of Maine. It is possible that there were two Moses Goodwins. Just not sure if this is at all accurate. Probably not. I don't want to get my hopes up. For a while I didn't add anything until trees popped up with parents for Mary Ann Abbott.
Here's where things get confusing. Mary Ann's supposed parents are Samuel Hooper (Red flag there.) who was born around 1768 in the colony which eventually became Maine. He died on November 20th, 1851 in Shapleigh, Maine. I can't find any proof of a connection to him. His wife was Mary Coffin who was born 17 Jan 1774 in Kittery, ME (Mass, I know. But just saying it for simplicity.). She died 31 Oct 1851 in Shapleigh. The trees have sources. BUT! They do not have anything to link Moses and Mary Ann to these people.
So, I am left to wonder if there is truth to this. The Hooper thing is already a red flag because we know Mary Ann was born in 1802 in Shapleigh as an Abbott. I wonder if I am missing something. Can someone help figure this mess out?
