Korean War Conflict is part of Korean War

Korean Conflict is stated on wikipedia as Aug 1945 - Sep 2018. Korean War is stated as Jun 1950 - Jul 1953.

Korean War Template dates seem to match the Korean War, but anyone that was in Korea during the 'conflict' years considers that they served in the Korean War.  Should the dates of the Korean War consider the Conflict dates prior to the war?  The other option would be could we have a Korean Conflict template that would cover all the other years.

Edit - In the Sub-Projects table on the Military and War page, Korean Conflict 'Project' has Project Box 'Korean War Project' and sticker 'Korean War', so it would seem that the Korean War Conflict serve members should be included  in the Korean War.

Linda, I just saw this, but I’m on my way out. I’ll get back to you when I get back.
Sorry! Looks like my "I'll get back to you" turned into a second frustration-and-anger-producing appointment. Glad others jumped in.
No worries, Pip.  Steven helped.

The entire conflict is ongoing (1945 to present), but the actual war was only from 1950-53, so combining them would tend to cause some issues.

Services medals (which is what I believe service categories should ultimately be based on) is split into two distinct types:

  1. Korean Service Medal (awarded to any U.S. service member, who performed duty in the Republic of Korea, between June 27, 1950 and July 27, 1954 (the Korean War); and
  2. Korea Defense Service Medal (authorized for those members of the United States Armed Forces who have served duty in South Korea in support of the defense of the South Korean state after the signing of the Korean Armistice Agreement signed in 1953 at the end of the Korean War),

Anyone serving in Korea now on behalf of the the United States is with United States Forces Korea (USFK), which is considered part of the ongoing conflict after the Korean Armistice Agreement.

No recognition is given to the Forces that served in Korean conflict 1945 - 1950?

I will change template on that profile to Veteran Recognition
Not through service medals. It is considered part of the World War II aftermath and "restoration" efforts.

AFAIK the Korean War is not yet ended officially but there is only a ceasefire. So that means imo that everybody who was in Korea even after the ceasefire was in the Korean War. But that is only my amateur opinion about it.

Hi Billie, It would be best if you could create your own post in G2G for assistance.

Ancestry has a listings for Harry Myers / Harry E (Edward) Myers, In the U.S. Dept Vererans Affairs etc lists his SSN (Service Number??) as 233468957.

Hope this Helps!

The logic of the circumstance is that the Korea War should be sub-set of the Korea Conflict.  Should be noted that the Korean War was an escalation of the conflict which resulted in the UN sponsored response.

Other considerations should be the participants - there were a ton of them / the battles & battle honours / medals for the war.

Not to throw a monkey wrench in this project but maybe a clarification.

From the United States side of conflicts, the United States has not been in a declared war since WWII. Although combat, conflict, and other actions have occurred, calling the Korean conflict a war for U.S. service members is incorrect (it is also incorrect for Vietnam, Grenada, Panama, Desert Storm, Somalia, Afghanistan, Iraq, and any other events I missed).

Looking at the U.S. conflicts from the other side, I believe the North Koreans (and Vietnamese, etc.) considered those times war.

Do the sub-projects need a name change?
