There is nothing to suggest a Cherokee connection for this family.  The Cherokee were forced out of South Carolina at the time of the Revolutionary War. There no one named Newman, Stover, or Brimer on the 1835 Cherokee Census in either North Carolina or Tennessee. Almost all the Cherokee who remained in Tennessee after Removal lived within the boundaries of the old Nation, which did not include Sevier County.  Noone from this family appears on the 1851/52 census of Cherokee East of the Mississippi.  Daughter Rhoda Newman Elmore was alive at the time of the Eastern Cherokee payment on 1907 and she did not apply  for a share of the money.
