John Rankin, Coroner of Hanover Jamaica, married Elizabeth McKenzie 24 Jan 1767 in Hanover Jamaica.
John Rankin Esq. was the recorded owner of Middlesex Pen (Plantation) between 1767 and 1776 when it was inherited by his heirs upon his death. Middlesex Pen was transferred or sold out of his family around 1788.
John Rankin and Elizabeth McKenzie Rankin had four children:
1. Ann Rankin, born 17 Nov 1767 in Hanover Jamaica. She married Mr Joseph Brissett whose descendants migrated to Australia.
Ann Rankin Died in 1797 in Horsham England.
2. John Rankin, born 27 Dec 1769 in Hanover, Jamaica. John's wife was documented as Rachael Maria. DNA studies indicate she was likely a Jamaican woman of Spanish, Mediterranean and West African heritage. John was the father on record for baptisms of Mary Ann, Matthew, John Thomas, and Rebecca Maria Rankin in 1827 Living in Mt Felix.
3. Richard Rankin, baptised on 9 July 1772, born 6 months prior in 1771.
4. James Rankin, Born 30 August 1773 in Hanover Jamaica and married Judith Jackson 28 Oct 1793.
James is believed to have died in 1834 in Westmoreland Jamaica.
James Rankin owned Content Pen (Plantation) which was inherited by his son James Rankin Jr by 1837 when both Father and Son were referenced in the account of a slave who said James Rankin "Master" had previously died but had a son, also named James Rankin.
Census data recorded by John Thomas Rankin in 1880 indicated he was born in Jamaica and that his father was born in Ireland.
