Which profiles are managed by the Australian Convicts Project?

I know there are stickers on the way for Australian Convicts, however, I am wondering which profiles are actually managed by "Australian Convicts and (First) Settlers" project.

I always thought I was a member of the project but I have been sent A LOT of suggestions saying that profiles I manage using the Australian Convicts and First Settlers project box need to be changed because:

Description of Error - 931: ProjectBox without Project Account

Profile isn't managed by a project. It has a project's Project Box template.

This is true. I have a lot of convicts as direct descendants, but when I went to check, it seems that there are very few (maybe not any) projects that are actually managed by the project. All that I have checked are managed by individuals.

The implication of this I suppose is that the project is that the categories available for Australian convicts are not necessarily intuitive to find as an alternative.

For example, if you type in convict in the search box, "first fleet" or "second fleet" does not appear. You would need to type in "fleet".

Also, there does not seem to be much hierarchy to the convict categories and quite a few that are missing. I am planning to put in some time to fix some of these issues now.

Does anyone want to contribute to this effort?

Hi Simon

As Deb explained, now that we have the convict stickers approved, all profiles of convicts that are not managed by the Australia Project need to have their convict project box removed and replaced with the relevant convict sticker. See https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Template:Australian_Convicts for the codes for the convict stickers.

There are a few convicts that are project protected and / or managed by the Australia Project, eg https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Huxley-4. If a profile is managed by the Australia Project, it should have a Convict project box rather than a sticker. I'll add the project box to that one now!

There will be quite a lot of work to change all the project boxes to stickers, as most convicts are not managed by the Australia Project. We maybe should ask Editbot to make the changes.

The stickers should also add the First, Second or Third Fleet categories. The categories for later convicts will need to be added manually.

Hope this answers your question.

By the way, Simon, when you click on Huxley-4 above, you'll see that the profile manager is 'Australia Project WikiTree'. That's the Australia Project account. It means that for one reason or another the Australia Project is managing that profile. Sometimes an individual may also be a profile manager, but whenever the Australia project account is one of the managers of a profile, it needs to have a project box.
Yes, I can see how in a case like that having a PPP is important. I allows disputes to be managed in an open way and you would imagine something that is project managed will be more responsive, especially if there is more than one leader. In that respect, shouldn't the leader of the Australian Convicts and (First) Settlers project now be listed as 'Australia Project Wikitree'?

It might save confusion at the user end when people try to communicate.
Also, it would probably be better if the project box was not available any more if the project cannot manage profiles.

Or is there some reason why it is still needed
Hi Simon,

We are currently reviewing the structure of the Australia project, and will be looking at how the Convicts and First Settlers sub-project fits in. However, the Australia Project will manage the small number of convict profiles that are PPPd or the project decides to manage because the person is historically significant. We will probably need to amend the Convicts and First Settlers Project boxes once we have worked through the restructure.

There are no profiles managed by that project as it does not have a project account.  The project box should be removed for now and replaced with a sticker. Keep in mind that stickers go below the biography header, not above.

Thanks, Deb,

What is a project account?

Sorry, all this is not really self-explanatory when you are learning about it the first time.

How can it be a project without a project account?
Simon The Australia convict project is a sub-project of the Australia Project, the Australia Project being a top level project manage all the Australian sub projects.
Thanks. Terry.

So what about the profiles. Should all the project tags be moved as suggested?

Perhaps it the Australia Project have the Convicts and (First) Settlers Project and account, then the subproject may decide to take the management of (some of) them on?

This may apply especially if there are orphaned profiles for instance. Or would will the Australian Project take on all Australian profiles for now?
The Australia project manages Australian profiles, I don't add Australia project as the manager for all my profiles mainly the notable ones, My 9 convict profiles  I manage my self. When we did the project boxes way way way back when we had project boxes for all our projects and sub-projects. Now it's stickers except for the top level projects.

Simon,

Project accounts are set up in the same way that member accounts are set up. They are one of the very few exceptions to the rule that WikiTree profiles must represent real people. These accounts are set up specifically to manage profiles of particular interest to a project. A few projects, PGM for example, have a very broad reach when it comes to the profiles it chooses to manage. Most, however, limit the profiles they manage to those that must be project protected (PPP) due to some sort of controversy regarding the profile. All PPP must be managed by a project account.

Here is a daily/weekly report on managed, PPP and Project Boxes

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:DBE_Project_Status#WikiTree-37_Australia_Project

I hope that helps. If there is a need and possibility for automated process, let me know.

Although we are just setting up a team to handle this, I think the report will work just fine for Irish Roots. Thanks for setting this up.
Thanks Ales.

Hi Simon, just noticed your suggestion about reviewing the convict categories. Great idea! There will probably be a number of people interested in discussing this prior to making any changes. If you want to / when you’re ready, it might be good to post another G2G question to start this discussion.

As Gillian has indicated the Australia Project is working on a number of aspects to redefine the existing projects.  One aspect is what profiles should be managed by the project.

The Australia Project has its own wiki-ID. Wikitree-37.  https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/WikiTree-37

Once this process is final we planned to use editbot if possible to replace the current project boxes with the new stickers.  Some of the existing project boxes for 'Convicts and Settlers' will still probably remain (perhaps revamped) or be replaced with an Australia Project Box. Once this is resolved, we can then replace all the existing Project Boxes that still have 'First' in the title.

So to clarify, this template is not  to be used on profiles, https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Template:Convicts

because there is no project account, and any that have it are to be replaced by this sticker https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Template:Australian_Convicts

What about the profiles we used the project box for who are Free Settlers, they don't have a sticker, so we just remove the Project Box at the moment, until there is a sticker?
