Why do I have people on my Watchlist for which I am not Profile Manager?

Don't get me wrong. I like it that they are there.  They don't show up on the total number of Watchlist profiles.  I must have removed myself as profile manager some other way than I do now.  Right now, I can't add myself to the trusted list unless I'm profile manager, and I can't remove myself as manager without also removing myself from the trusted list.

Since the profiles on my Watchlist are hovering around 5000, I am forced to remove myself as Profile Manager from some profiles every time I add more.  I do this by going to the Privacy tab, then the Trusted List tab, and removing myself. When I have done this recently, although the number on the watchlist goes down, I find they disappear from the watchlist entirely.  I would rather see them in the manner that I see the others that don't have M beside them on the Watchlist.

Margaret, does being on a trusted list contribute to your Watchlist? Just wondering.
yes, Pip, because your watchlist consists of all profiles for which you are EITHER manager or on the trusted list.  There is a little "M" next to the names of the ones you manage.  Names that don't have that "M" are ones for which you are on the trusted list only.

Watchlist is essentially the same as Trusted List. To watch (via your watchlist) a profile, you must be on the profile's trusted list.

Profiles You Manage is  a subset of both.

You may or may not manage all the profiles on your Watchlist/Trusted List.

Hope that makes sense!

edit: Since Watchlist and Trusted List are the same, to reduce your Watchlist, you must also reduce your Trusted List.

For the profiles on your watchlist, you are either:

  • manager
  • trusted list

You can remove yourself as manager, but you will remain as trusted list (that removal has to be done separately, in addition -- unless the functionality has been changed recently).

You can not add yourself as trusted list (unless you are manager - in which case is redundant and unnecessary)

Dennis, I think there are two different links for managers on the privacy page.  One, next to the name, says "remove as manager" and the other, which is below, says something like "remove completely".  The first one leaves you on the trusted list, but the second one removes you as manager AND from the trusted list.
Thanks, Gaile.  So how do I remain on the trusted list but remove myself as manager?  At present I see only the "Remove Yourself" option from the Trusted List.

Margaret, Here is a screen capture from the privacy page.  Note the Remove as Manager next to each name - that will leave the person on the trusted list.  Note the REMOVE SELECTED PEOPLE and REMOVE YOURSELF buttons - they will remove the person completely from the trusted list.  (private information is redacted)

What happens when I am the only manager?  I am given only the "Remove Yourself" option. Then I remove myself and the profile disappears from the Watchlist.  It didn't do that before.
