Trying to link up the Bowling line. Had Ancestry.com DNA test

My Great Great Grandfather is Joseph Bowling, his wife is Sarah Jane Mc Connell. My father told me we are directly related to Pocohantas. Need to find the links backwards to discover this information. Ancestry.com DNA test did not. It stated no Native American DNA.

Joseph Bowlin Born 1825 died 1905

Sarah Jane Born 1836 died 1917

I have no knowledge of the parents of Joseph. But I believe they were from Maryland or Virginia. I do not know what a gedcom is.

Can you help me? Suzan K. Bowlin Lukas

You might want  to try downloading your test results to gedmatch.com, it is free. The following link explains the site:

The name is Joseph Bowling. My name is Suzan K.Bowling Lukas. I am the great great granddaughter. Ancestry.com DNA test only goes by a number it does not send a written confirmation. So I can not share this with the group as it only tells me the percentages for the profile.

You can still be indirectly related to Pocohantas and not be Native American because it was her granddaughter who married Robert Bolling and left him a widower six months after their son John Fairfax was born. Robert married Ann Stith and they had many children (not NA) and you will most likely find your link among their children and still be indirectly linked to Pocohantas (via her great grandson and his father Robert...) Also look for the Red Bollings and the White Bollings... then you may begin to understand.

Thank you Carol. Red and White Bowlings, Bollings? Are you referring to the War of Roses? I am aware that the name is prominent in northern England and also in the south of Scotland. My deceased cousin did go to Bolling Manor but really only said we are related to the Bollings there. The name had changed to Bowling. Because the US 1890 census burned I can not trace much back beyond Joseph Bowling and his wife Sarah Mc Connell, my paternal great grandparents.
