FindAGrave links

I've been entering sources for me profiles, but I'm noticing that the FindAGrave links are not including the link to the profile. So I have been adding them in afterwards, as I go along. I haven't been able to catch them all. Is there a way to search my profiles only, for Find A Grave links, so I can verify that the links are correct?

Thanks

An easier solution to this problem with FindAGrave citations is, in my opinion, to add the FindAGrave external link template to the end of the citation, then to copy/paste the memorial number into the template.

Here is the template format that I use:

{{FindAGrave|NUMBER|sameas=yes}}

Replace the word NUMBER with the memorial link.

If you link to a different person's memorial, replace the word yes with the word no.

My understanding is that some browsers (such as Firefox which I use) do not copy all the links in the citations on the FindAGrave memorials. Adding the template to the citation gives us an easy way to provide the missing link (intentional pun!).

edit: Made some edits for better clarity.

Lindy, FYI I also use Firefox and have had no problem with copying the FAG citations when I use them.
If I recall a previous comment by you, Dale, don't you use an older version of FF (or was it someone else)?

I keep mine version up to date, though sometimes I don't know why. Perhaps I should go back to an earlier version, too!
I have the latest version of Firefox.
My mistake, Dale; must have been another member.

But my browser won't copy any of the links in FindAGrave citations except the link for the main page. I suppose the problem could be my ultra-high security measures.

But I'm not worried, since I can just add the template!

Hey, Alex. One alternative is look for profiles with Google. Try copying this into the search box on Google:

"Alex Stronach" "find a grave" OR "find-a-grave" site:wikitree.com

Every profile includes a link to G2G, so there's no good way eliminate those hits. You'll have to sift through a few results, particularly on the first page or two. The actual profiles will be readily apparent: they'll display the person's name followed by the years of birth and death and the phrase "WikiTree FREE Family Tree. They'll look like this:

To keep your place as you work, you can right-click on the Google link and choose to open the link in a new tab or window. Have fun!

Thanks Edison, good news is your suggestion worked like a charm! This is exactly what I was looking for.

Bad news is it gave me nearly 20 pages to sift through...

:)
Hi Alex,

If desired, I believe that you can further restrict the search to limit the results to just WikiTree profiles and space pages by using Edison's suggested search criteria modified slightly replacing "site:wikitree.com" with "site:wikitree.com/wiki".

Thanks for the best-answer star, Alex. Can I do a virtual pass and give it to Rick?

Rick: "I say, Jeeves; I do believe you are on to something!" My Homer Simpson "Duh!" moment of the week...on Wednesday; usually I have at least one by Tuesday.

Various tips & techniques pages, including Google's Help pages, always show fully-qualified domain names as examples for the "site:" parameter. I'm daily doing WHOIS searches which can't accept directories specified after the domain name, so have all this time thought we were constrained the same way for Google searches. And I tried probably 20 different search strings during a Source-a-Thon to try to figure out how to exclude G2G posts and show only profiles.

LOL, Edison - I've not seen it documented anywhere either, but adding a directory to the site:domain-name in a Google search has appeared to work for me whenever I've tried it (hopefully it's not a bug and will continue to work!).

If you go your my Wikitree drop down box you will find watchlist and suggestions

Watchlist is all profiles you have taken control over

Suggestions is a list of all the ‘errors ‘ detected by the edit bot for your list.

The latter is probably the better way for you to go. Especially as it’s best if you check regularly to keep your profiles clean
