Have hit a brick wall looking for parents of Rhoda (Scofield) Chase.

  • Birth

    23 Aug 1820

    Lyme, Jefferson, New York, USA

  • Marriage

22 Nov 1837 to Hiram Josiah Chase

    Cleveland, Cuyahoga, Ohio, USA

  • Death

In 1880 census it lists that both of her parents were born in New York. Her death certificate does not show her parents. All other sources are listed in her profile.

According to a DNA match on Ancestry there could be a link to the following Scofields

  • Enos Scofield

B: 26 Jan 1759 in Stamford, Fairfield, CT

D: 15 Dec 1836 in Nashville, Hanover Township, Chautauqua, NY

  • Arunah Scofield

B: 25 Sep 1790 in Danbury, Fairfield, CT

D: 14 Feb 1870 in Nashville, Chautauqua, NY

    Thanks for your help!!

Following this line down I was able to find a will and he lists 6 daughters with their husbands and Rhoda is not listed so I don't think this is the correct father. It is possible the birth town listed for Rhoda is incorrect.

Then you might have to check all the wills of New York Scofield men listed in the 1820, and 1830 census.

That's how I found the parents of Reuben James. 261 wills read , finally proved parents.

Rhoda would have been born when Enos was 61 years old and Arunah would have been 30. Quite an age difference. Enos would have been old enough to be Rhoda's grandfather.
