why I got a blockage when editing profiles I created myself + why should my account be closed? [closed]

Unfortunately I had this problem on April 18, 2018: Emergency block in place. Please contact info@wikitree.com

My mail-request was answered by the "very helpful staff at Wikitree" (in this case ironic) by mail with the following information:

Hi there,

Per your request, we've closed your account.

Thanks!
The WikiTree Team

I'm not a native english speaker, but I understand that: because I've been working/editing on profiles I created myself (NOT on profiles created by others), I first get a completely unexplainable blockade and on my request why, they tell me that my account will be closed.

I ask why I get a blockade when editing profiles I have created myself and then my account is closed right away? What kind of service is this?

I'm sorry, I don't understand this reaction. What is the slogan of this website? "where genealogists collaborate"? But such action is miles away from that! I'm really really annoyed!

Can some serious employee of the so-called Wikitree team or any other "omniscient" person explain to me what this nonsense is and why my account should simply be closed?

The Wikitree team has not been helpful so far: neither my question why I got a blockade was answered. Nor the reaction to the requested e-mail contact, to info@ with the message to close my account is still not understandable for me.

Where do we go from here? perplexity - helplessness

currently the account does not seem to be closed yet - but who knows

best regards

closed with the note: resolved (be carefull - editing profiles too fast and too many contributions in a short time can your account block by an automatic trigger - if it happend, contact please the WikiTree Team at the displayed email address)

I am sure someone will be along to help you shortly, but in the meantime, I had a comment in regards to your post - Profiles are not owned by Profile Managers. Even if you created the profile of a person, that profile is now shared by the community.

You're account seems to still be open.  I've heard the software will block an account if there are rapid edits and there seems to be ten edits in under two minutes which could have triggered the block.  I've never had this happen to me but I've heard of it happening to others.  Hopefully someone that can help you will see your question and contact you.  Good luck!

thanks you for your comment and hint. Of course, the profile does not "belong" to the profile manager. I just wanted to point out that I didn't enter nonsense like a spammer in profiles not managed by me, But added data in a new profile I just created myself. And I work with copy and past e.g. for the location information, because it goes faster.

There's an automatic watchdog that looks for certain odd patterns.  But it's not highly intelligent.

In this case, you set 9 flags and saved them all separately.  10 saves in about a minute.  That's presumably what triggered it.

Then I guess they unblocked your account and accidentally sent the wrong email.
RJ, I am surprised I have not triggered those flags yet.

On the 18th I made 54 edits in 14 minutes, on the 17th I made 18 edits in 3 minutes. I work in multiple tabs on multiple monitors when cleaning up categories for Texas, but I save before moving on to the next tab - which is apparently keeping me from hitting those triggers.
As other mentioned, you most likely hit a trigger that flagged your account and someone has already cleared that out. They may have also sent the wrong email, or something was lost in translation - I am not sure which.

In either case, I would like to point out that your post is very negative in nature, and what simply could have been (and most likely is) just a misunderstanding seems to be 'blown out of proportion'.

thank you for the information. That is an understandable explanation. But since I've been with wikitree for some time now, I've actually always done this fast editing. (At least I think so) But so far this trap has never caught me - luckily - yet. Then I have to work slower in the future - but lifetime is too short ;-)

Steven - thank you for your advice. it may seem exaggerated from a third point of view and i don't know how you would react if you are told that your account is closed and you see your years of work in danger. The background information now available through the other users was not known to me so far. and there were also no references to it in the help forums to be found. I hope it is a regrettable mistake. and I am a little hot-blooded. I'm sorry.

by the way - I didn't want to choose this public way, But the answer mail from Wikitree team explicitly pointed out: Please ask your questions in the Genealogist-to-Genealogist forum

I would have preferred a more discreet way to clarify...

just because I'm a little hot-blooded - sorry

but now it's clear that I'm working too fast (please tell it to my employer and boss  ;-)

and therefore beat the automatic trigger

Thanks to all very much for this informations!

Goodness, A.W., I didn't read this post before the other one you commented on. I would have been very upset  too if I  receive a message that my account was closed with no explanation. I am glad it is all worked out now.

Hi A.W.

Your account is still active and now it's unblocked you should be good to go.  As Vincent mentioned we have an autoblock that kicks in if too many contributions are made too quickly.  That is what happened in your case. Sorry for the confusion!
