Emergency Block on Account [closed]

Hello!

I've had my very first emergency block placed on my account, undoubtedly due to a high number of very quick edits I was making to expand place names on profiles. I was wondering how I would go about getting unblocked (it's strange to be away from Wikitree for so long, even just a day!)

My account is Wagenaar-101

If anyone has any suggestions, or can unblock me, it would be much appreciated! I have sent an email to Wikitree with the address provided, but thought that this posting couldn't hurt. Thank you very much!

All the best,

- Gillian

Hi Gillian, if you message info@ you can ask to be unblocked.

Unfortunately I had the same problem on April 18, 2018. My mail-request was answered by the "very helpful staff at Wikitree" (in this case ironic) by mail with the following information:

Hi there,

Per your request, we've closed your account.

Thanks!
The WikiTree Team

I'm not a native english speaker, but I understand that: because I've been working/editing on profiles I created myself (NOT on profiles created by others), I first get a completely unexplainable blockade and on my request why, they tell me that my account will be closed.

I ask why I get a blockade when editing profiles I have created myself and then my account is closed right away? What kind of service is this?

I'm sorry, I don't understand this reaction. What is the slogan of this website? "where genealogists collaborate"? But such action is miles away from that! I'm really really annoyed!

Can some serious employee of the so-called Wikitree team or any other "omniscient" person explain to me what this nonsense is and why my account should simply be closed?

The Wikitree team has not been helpful so far: neither my question why I got a blockade was answered. Nor the reaction to the requested e-mail contact, to info@ with the message to close my account is still not understandable for me.

Where do we go from here? perplexity - helplessness

currently the account does not seem to be closed yet - but who knows

best regards

A.W., if you make too many edits on profiles within a minute, you will be blocked because it looks like spammer behavior. I can see you did 6 edits on one profile (clicking one status indicator and then clicking save before moving on to the next status indicator). This most likely caused the block on your account. The WikiTree team is very busy right now getting ready for the Clean A Thon so they are unable to answer all emails quickly right now. As a Data Doctor, my first question is, why do you need to click save after clicking every button on the same profile?
Hello Emma, well I work in multiple tabs on multiple monitors. Because my Internet connection is not always stable, I have often lost changes. That's why I have this approach. Since I joined Wikitree in March 2015, I have never had a problem with this procedure. My problem has been solved in the meantime. I closed the separate post with a hint, so that others don't fall into this trap as well - unfortunately there is nowhere a hint about this setting and the automatic trigger in the help or forum. best regards
The autoblock is intended to prevent serious spamming or vandalism so it's not something we really give a lot of details about.
yes that is understandable, but as we say in German: it is a double-edged sword. If I had known that before, I would not have gotten such a "crisis" about my blockade and the imaginary account closure. But the problem is solved now, let's put a lid on it. Thanks a lot!
