Additional information about America Thompson Morrison

The 1910 census indicates she was married to Joseph Morrison. There is another surname, Crawford, given to one of her children. Not sure if Thompson was from an earlier marriage or her maiden name.

Nancy,

I found some information, but I'm probably as confused as you may be.

On the 1900 US census for River and Pine Prairie Twps. in Crawford, Arkansas, there are TWO stepchildren listed for America's husband, Joseph Morrison.  They are Lizzie "Crowford", age 14, (other records seem to give her name as "Crawford"), and Ephie Thompson, age 10. Joseph and America are listed as having been married for 10 years.  To me it seems possible, if not likely, that America has been married twice before -- once to a Thompson, and once to a Crawford.

America is listed on the 1900 US census as the mother of 9 children, only 4 of whom are still alive in 1900.  I think that Lizzie and Ephie are America's children from earlier marriages, and that two of the youngest Morrison children are America and Joseph's children.  The older Morrison children probably belong to Joseph and a previous wife.  I am going to put the 1900 census information (with source citation) on America's profile.  You can edit it (or eliminate it) as you see fit.  I will do the same for the 1910 census.  It helps for comparison purposes while trying to figure out the mysteries in this family.

I found a record for Lizzie Crawford's later marriage to G.C. Britt at FamilySearch.com https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HY-6S57-2XL?cc=1417439&wc=QDM2-H5C%3A1589733570

On the 1910 census at https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MKJ2-Z1G, Lizzie "Britt" is already a widow with two children.

I also found a death record for someone that I believe is the same Lizzie, ("Annie Elizabeth Crawford"), listing her parents as Daniel Calvin Buie  and America Barber. https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:JFSG-52Q

I'm on pretty thin ice here, and feel like a lot more time needs to be spent researching this family -- I may be on the wrong path entirely, but I do want to give you what I have found that needs to be researched further.

There is an 1880 census record at https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:33S7-9YBV-9LC1?cc=1417683&wc=QZ24-HWK%3A1589408163%2C1589408232%2C1589401227%2C1589395204 that may be America with her father, mother and siblings.  The last name on this census is "Barbie" instead of "Barber", but it's possible one of the records I found has the surname wrong.

Again, I'm not convinced that everything I found is solid, and I don't know what to make of America Barbie (or Barber) and Daniel Buie as the parents of a daughter with the surname "Crawford", but it's possible all of this information ties together, and I wanted to at least present it to you for consideration.

I am now awake past my bedtime, and am afraid of not making sense anymore, but I hope this can help in some way.

Thank you so much for taking the time to do this research. Some matches information I had found but much is new and will be helpful as I continue my search to complete my family tree.
