As in Lionel Roger Dorrien-Smith. Possibly Petty Officer?

If it is put in the prefix field it will of course be suppressed.

On Find A Grave it notes that he is a Pilot Officer, so I can only assume that this was someone's abbreviation for that rank.

Thepeerage.com also says pilot officer.
He and  his two brothers died in WW2 and 2 members of the previous generation in WW1. They are recorded on a memorial in St Nicholas Church Tresco, Isles of Scilly http://www.iwm.org.uk/memorials/item/memorial/3553

Might it be some sort of military rank, e.g., Pilot Officer or Petty Officer? I have never seen either written as P/O with the slash though.
