Brick wall with Clark J. Faulk

I have hit a major brick wall with Clark J. Faulk.  He is my 4th great-grandfather and I can find no information about his birth or parents.  I know who he was married to, when and where he died, that he fought in the civil war, but nothing prior.

Every few months I try again, in case something pops up that I missed or that might have been added after looking.  At wits end.  He and his family are special to me in particular, dunno why, just are.  Could be that so little is known about him.

I have tried all the places on the web I can think and find no other information about him.

Any ideas?

Thank you.

There are 8 Caulk households listed in the 1830 census for Georgia. Only two list a male child under 5 years old.

Mark Faulk in Twiggs Georgia and Porter Faulk/Folk in Wilkinson.

Perhaps you might search for wills or land records for these men ?
Thank you, Eddie, I hadn't even thought of that!!  I will try that resource and see what comes of it.
I told ya before, Miss Betty, sometimes you have to sideways finesse. Spellings I found on various documents were FULKS, FULKE, FOLKE, and FOLKS , sometimes in the same family it seems.  And don't neglect land records ! Sometimes, if the oldest would be inheriting the big farm, Pops would buy the other kids smaller pieces of land adjacent or nearby when they got married.

And look for Clark's will. Frequently uncles and or brothers were executors, administrators, bondsmen for surety and witnesses. Further clues for the daddy hunt.

There are several citations for a RICHARD " THE IMMIGRANT" FOULKE whose grandsons moved to Georgia. Surname spelling among his progeny varied.
There seems to be a SUNNYSIDE FAULK FAMILY CEMETERY IN TWIGGS GEORGIA. The local library may be able to assist you in learning which FAULKS are buried there

Found this note

3 books have been written on that covered the Faulk families, however I do not know about their availability. They are Mrs. Marie Godfrey's "Early Settlers of Barbour Co. Alabama" Vol. 1, "History of Twiggs Co., Ga" by Lanette Faulk, and "Descendants of Some Twiggs Co., GA Faulk Families", by Mr. Charles B. Schweizer. There is also a book called "Two Centuries with the Willis Family and their Kin", by Mr. Douglas M. Willis.

Says Clark was born 1830. You might extend your search to the 1840 census for men with a son about ten years old.

Yes, I do believe you told me about finessing Eddie.  Sometimes my brain gets stuck on the ONE thing. LOL  Tunnel vision.  Thank you for the reminder, not to mention ALL of the resources you posted!

I will try the 1840 census, that is my fault for not looking, that I remember anyway.  I really hate the census' which do not provide names, only hash marks.  Bad tendency to avoid them, afraid I will pick the wrong one.

How the heck did you find the cemetery???  That is TERRIFIC!  I see a gem in the making.

Thank you for ALL of the resources and the time you took to find and provide them.  It is greatly, greatly, appreciated.
If Clark died before his father, you might need to look for a will of his father, naming Clark's daughter or widow
I will do that Eddie.  I have tried to find a will, his daughter was about 4 when her mother, his wife, died.  I think he joined the civil war about 4 years later.  I have looked for guardian papers too.  Nothing.  It has been a while since I looked for that, will try again, just in case.

Have you tried searching online books?  I recently found this 10 Fabulous Sources for Family History Books Online article.  Seven of the ten sources are free.  Might be worth a try.

Hi Star,

I try to look at all the info that comes up in a search, I actually do not remember seeing books, I most likely didn't pay attention.  Thank you for the resource link you posted.  Going to check it now!!
