I am pretty new to the work and came at it as a result of trying to find out personal family history on both my mother and father’s family. My mother’s father would never say where he was actually born and when providing the information on U.S. documents, the information was always different. Austria, Germany, some other Slavic County is anyone’s guess. My mother recently accessed her official birth certificate and we found another location listed as Bremen Germany. My maternal grandmother’s lineage can be found on this site leading back to the 1600’s immigrating from France to Quebec, to northern Michigan.
My father’s genealogy is less of a mystery, but trying to locate birth, baptism, wedding records has been more challenging since both grandparents immigrated from Northern Italy.
I am looking forward to linking my family tree with that found for my maternal grandmother and adding to the database for my father’s side if it doesn’t exist currently.
I will be retiring from public education soon and can see this as a great way to use my newly found time.
