Hi Rebecca. Glad to be here! The Howland's are well documented in Massachusetts. John Howland famously fell overboard during a storm on the Mayflower. The Elliott marriage intrigues me. I'm working on getting my information uploaded here, but I do know that my 3rd Great Grandfather was Joshua D. Elliott born 18 Sept 1834 in Pike, Ohio.
He had quite a few children and one of them was named Thomas. I do not have much information on the other children of his as my Elliott is the eldest child, Ephraim (1856). I show Thomas C. Elliott born 1876 also in Ohio. They're roughly 300 miles north and slightly east from Knoxville.
To my knowledge many members of the Elliott family served in the Revolutionary War and then followed Putnam into Ohio. Rufus Putnam lead a group of his soldiers to establish the first American settlement in Ohio at Marietta.
John Howland was the first Howland in America and was indentured to Governor Carver. The Howland side of my tree isn't as thoroughly documented because I had spent years chasing down the guy that was listed as the father on my Grandfathers birth certificate. If you haven't checked it out, I'd suggest contacting the Pilgrim John Howland Society. Most of my Howland tree is from Ohio so I am not sure if any of this will actually be helpful but I would be happy to investigate further and get back you.
Merry Christmas! Looking forward to contribute what I can to the community.
