Hi I'm adopted and only have my birth mother name, how can I gather more information?

Question

My birth mother details are Sandra Dorothy Norris nee Elliott in Adelaide south Australia she was 15 at the time of my birth in December 1962, I was adopted in Adelaide south Australia in June 1963, I recently found out that she died in 2012 in Adelaide south Australia, I've looked at birth deaths and marriages and can't find any information at all, I have also done an Ancestry DNA, not sure where to go now

Hi Gillian, Here are some thoughts for next steps to consider:

• Look at your closest matches on Ancestry and start to group them together as to which side of the family they are on.
• Use the surname search and location search to find recurring patterns. 
• Download your match list using DNAGedcom so that you can analyse it in a spreasheet and look for patterns.
• Download your raw data from Ancestry and upload it to gedmatch, FTDNA and MyHeritage so you can fish for matches in a larger pool.

you can apply to the department of child protection for you adoption records that is what my husband did. It takes a while for them to come back to you

but they acknowledge you when you write in you just have to wait for records. merrilyn hunter
