There is a wiki entry with a lot of bio info on him. I checked the info with his great grandson and to him it sounds accurate.

The Edmonton Bulletin has his obituary which is listed as a source on his Wikipedia page. It says he was born in 1833, so there is already a discrepancy in birth year there. There are lots of different reasons why a birth year might be slightly different on different records and the fact that no one has a day and month listed, only a year, makes precision difficult. As for whether or not he was born in London, Ontario, neither of the records I have shown you dispute that, and the obituary corroborates it.

Owing to nearly all the sources listed on his Wikipedia page as coming from Edmonton, and this Edward F Carey was living in Edmonton in 1881 I'd be fairly confident we have proof he is the person you are looking for, confident enough to add these sources to his page.
