An amazing act of good will, Keith.

Lynette; about talking to dead people (I want to ask for real or on paper but will go with this instead)... I have a joke for you.  How many dead people are there in a cemetery?? They are ALL dead !!! hahaha

And I know every one of them on first name basis!!  But you forgot the genealogists and cemeterists who are documenting them.
Drum roll .. and the winner/winners is or are....

Who won, inquisitor minds want to know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry I'm late on announcing; selecting was a tougher process than I thought it would be!

I'll be ready later today :)
I know Keith won't post this because he's afraid it will look like advertising, so I will: https://sites.google.com/site/hathaway1200/

You're terrific, Keith. I'm psyched that you're the member of the week. We're going to find a way to plug the t-shirts in the mention in the newsletter.
Ordered! Can't wait! How much is shipping to the UK Keith? :D
Hi Susie, I should be able to find out the shipping cost within a day or two... I just need to go the post office and have them weigh a shirt and tap in the zip code.  I'll let you know pronto!

Thank you for your trust and friendship :)

@ Chris - Thank you sir!
Yay! I'll plaster it all over social media when it gets here. Thanks Keith! :-)

I love WikiTree for the ease of creating and finding ancestors and breaking down roadblocks because I was able to break down and find my father's ancestors and discovered my surname history and orgin was different then what I thought.

Side note:  Also the projects that one can join, some have the best leaders one could ever hope for (ie: the "Integrator project" with Master Keith Hathaway as leader)!!

I love WikiTree because, it allows me to leave a concise history of mine, and associated families, for future generations to understand where they came from, and their families history.

Thank you Dave!
Are our trees left online forever like? Given the work we are all putting in, or most of us anyway, I'd like to think they did remain for future generations :)
Hi Donna... great question!

Of course "forever" taken literally would be asking a bit much :)

But YES!  The creator of WikiTree has vowed and pledged to keep it free and intact for the foreseeable future.

Changes may occur to profiles as improvements are made and new sources are uncovered.  Profiles that were left marked as "private" may disappear when their managers do if no directive was given.  Otherwise, they are here to stay.

The answer is based somewhat on faith.  I have faith in Chris (the creator of WikiTree).  I've met and broken bread with him.  Looking him in the eyes and hearing him speak makes one a believer.

Cheers!
Keith, your comment here is very touching. Thank you.

By the way, I've been drafting a page that describes all the measures we take to make sure our shared tree never disappears, beyond just backups and disaster planning. It should be ready soon.
Thanks, that is good to hear. I've been thinking about that for a while, about what will happen to our trees and if we are ever faced with a situation whereby we can no longer contribute, etc and no activity or contributions are being registered.

I've been trying to get immediate family involved and my daughter is a 'Family Member' on here. She is interested, but doesn't really have the interest on the level I do and not as active. But then she's only in her early 20s and busy with University life, etc. I told her to register, because it's something she might like to show her children one day, or a curious grandchild and one day in the future, when older, she might herself become more interested in the project herself.

I think future generations will be lucky in the sense that if they come to Wikitree looking for family, they will find it all here and won't have to look elsewhere. Unfortunately they won't have the fun we all did searching for long lost ancestors, but they won't get the headaches that go with it :)

I love WikiTree because it keeps me out of trouble and they give away free tees :)
by Kevin Conroy G2G6 Pilot (255k points)
Thank you Kevin!
Hi Kevin. To be clear, the "they" here, who is giving away the free tee, is a member just like you. On his own dime. Keith is very generous.
Thanks for the clarification Chris, yes Keith is very generous.

I love WikiTree because it is the gem in genealogy where the novice, the amateur and the professional genealogist can collaborate and present to the world their research on an equal level by uploading sources.

My answer is a question. Where do you buy a tee shirt like this. I don't think I can find the words to win but would be interested in buying one.
by Frank Gould G2G1 (1.3k points)
Thank you Frank!
For now they are priceless :)
Great question, Frank.  Keith, I hope you do make them available for sale. If you do, we could link to your store in the WikiTree Love section.

I love Wikitree because the community is fantastic and supportive - and the genealogy is brilliant!!!  I also love that Wikitre is free.

I just can't stand the idea that I have to pay to see my own tree on ancestry and other similar places. That is just not right!!

What's not to love about WikiTree? (Do we have a word limit?)  But I especially love that it brings together family on one shared tree that we all have a stake in. I love that it cares about good genealogy, but at the same time cares about the people.

I have gathered an amazing community of family and friends here and I am related to just about everyone so when I say family--I mean family!!

"We are family...." (got that song stuck in your head yet? You're welcome)
by Emma MacBeath G2G Astronaut (1.3m points)
Thank you Emma!
Great comment, Emma! Thank you. You have become such an important part of our community.
Thank you Chris :-)

I like WikiTree because it gives an open platform to work our paper trails while incorporating DNA but I LOVE WikiTree because we power it - the volunteers!

No need to enter me to win this beautiful Tee Kieth, if I did people would think this was rigged! (20 dollaroos in the mail to draw my name first).
