Sources in GEDCOM imports.

Importing GEDCOM files that contain sources will automatically include the source information with footnotes. This is a very nice feature of the Wikitree GEDCOM import. However, it creates S-numbers for each source. I just discoverd that you can easily rename these S-numbers without breaking the links.

The automatically generated code looks like this:

<span id='S245'>S245</span>

Simply change the name using this syntax:

<span id='S245'>Find A Grave</span>

This hides the S-number, shows a more meaningful name, and maintains the link. Here is a very simple profile that demonstrates this syntax: http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Campbell-7931

VERY nice, Rick.  Thanks for posting.
That will make those source mark-ups a lot easier to fix -up ! Brilliant. Thanks.
Fantastic tip! Thank you for sharing it.
now if only the gedcom upload process could do that automatically. ;-b
In the example given above, both the
<span id='S245'></span>

This gives a cleaner look to the Source and Footnote sections of the profile, IMHO.
Rick, can you point to an example of this last? Thanks.

See the profile http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Pierpont-122 The source in this profile is called "Marks" (the author's last name).

Thank you, Rick!

(A pleasant surprise for me. I opened up the message "Sources in GEDCOM imports" expecting to find a complaint.)

I added the arborists tag since they do a lot of profile cleanup!
