Open profile changed to private when adding as child [closed]

Tame-5 was an open and unmanaged profile. I just added the profile as a child to Tame-156, and when I did that, the profile suddenly changed to privacy level 5. Then when I tried to adopt it, it wouldn't let me adopt as it was private, but now when I search for the profile, on the search results it tells me I am the profile manager. I've emailed info@ wikitree.com to ask if it can be opened, but just wondered if there was anything I did wrong to cause this to happen.

When a profile meets certain conditions -- such as being connected to another private profile, or only recently deceased -- then regardless of current privacy settings, any new change will auto switch to a more private setting.

Then, because of the increased privacy, if there is no profile manager (orphaned profile), it can not be adopted -- even though it looks like it can be.

In the future, if you need to make a change to an Open profile, and it has no manager -- adopt it first, make your changes, and reset the privacy levels before removing yourself as manager.

Hi Dennis - Do you know if the problem is fixable? If not, I'll stop stressing about it and leave it until a closer relative wants to be involved. If it isn't fixable, would they have to create a duplicate, as it is still 30 years before it will be allowed to be opened following the normal rules? Thanks Gillian
as Dale says, you can contact Paul and get him to open up the profile
Thank you so much Dennis and Dale. I appreciate the clarification and guidance. Gillian

Since the profile is for a deceased person and you want to adopt it you could always contact Paul and request that you be made manager of the profile. Contact him at Paul @wikitree.com (remove space)

Gillian -- Try adopting again.  I see Tame-5 as yellow-private but adoptable.  Paul has explained this to me.  I'll be editing and as soon as I save, I get locked out.  It is almost always because someone is living or shows they are living.  Of course, I don't know what you are actually seeing but profiles that are less than 150 years old or have been dead less than 100 years will automatically go to a private level unless the profile manager saves it differently.

private profiles can not be adopted, even though it looks like they can be.
