Hello to all, can anyone give me any more information of my Bowen and Thomas familie's ONLY from South Wales please for the 1700's. I have only just been researching this side of my father's maternal side and would be grateful for any reply. Thank you, kind  regard's, from Carole.  Ashton-1288

Rachel Bowen was born 1851, Neath (GRO Birth Index Neath 26/489 December 1851). Her mother's maiden name was Mathews, confirmed by the mother's maiden name of her sister, Jemima born in 1863. In 1850, John Bowen married Ann Matthews (GRO Marriage index Neath 26/771 December).

Ann Mathews was christened 10 June 1827, Neath, Glamorgan the daughter of Rees Mathews & Jemima. (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FM92-7X1). 

Following there marriage in 1850, John & Ann can be found in the 1851 Wales census, living in Furnace Row, Michealstone super Avon, Neath. This is the Census:

John Bowen's father, Morgan was the son of John Bowen & Jennet, Christened in 1800, Llangynwyd, Glamorgan (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:VFH2-TSJ).

Morgan married Catherine Thomas in 1822,  Llangynwyd, Glamorgan. (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:VF41-8P4 ) He died in 1873 and was buried on 9 April  Llangynwyd, St. Cynwyd, Glamorgan (National Burial Index).

As to Catherine Thomas, Census records her birth around 1800, Llangynwyd, Glamorgan. There are two baptisms, either of which could be Morgan's wife. Catherine, born 1800 daughter of William & Mary; Catherine born 1801 daughter of William & Catherine. 

Looking at the 1841 Census, there youngest daughter was given the name Catherine and with no evidence of a Mary Bowen, it is likely, but not conclusive that Catherine was the 1801 birth.

A copy of the marriage certificate for Thomas Thomas & Rachel Bowen reads:

Marriage solemnized at the Register Office in the District of Neath in the County of Glamorgan on the 10 November 1877, Thomas Thomas , 28 years, (bachelor & refinerman)  [Colliers Row, Cwmavon]. Father Thomas Thomas (deceased) Refinerman & Rachel Bowen, 26 years, ( spinster)  [Colliers Row, Cwmavon]. Father John Bowen (deceased) Metal breaker. 

With so many Thomas Thomas's born around 1847/48, it is extremely difficult to prove the correct birth registration

I figure he was younger than his wife, so he added 5 years and stuck at 28 for 5 years.

I was flummoxed by Llandaff.  But some enumerators didn't know what Ecclesiastical District meant, so they put the diocese.
