How do I get a list of profiles in a certain place & date?

** Edited to better explain the approach I've taken **

I would like to compile a list of all people on WikiTree who were present in Orkney in the period 1300-1500.

I started with a simple search of "Orkney" in the fourth box ("search for any text") on page https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Special:SearchPerson. This gives 2,900 results relating to Orkney on any date.

I then substituted "Orkney 1300...1500" in the same box. This gives all pages which contain both "Orkney" and any number between 1300 & 1500. This gives a more focussed set of results - 240 pages - but in addition to profile pages gives surname pages like https://www.wikitree.com/genealogy/CROY

Surname pages can be removed by adding "site:*/wiki/*" to the search, but this still brings back Space: and Category: pages.

Can anyone suggest a better way?

Search for a Poll Book.  It would list all the inhabitants.  Here is a link to the ones for 1690 which is later than you want but it gives you an idea of what they contain.  But I am not sure any were done that early.

https://news.gov.scot/news/historic-poll-tax-records-from-the-1690s-go-online

Scroll down to the history of the Islands.  It appears before the 1300s they belonged to Norway?  http://forebears.io/scotland/orkney  and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orkney

There is a list of surnames and frequency of the names but I am not sure of the time period.

This has a lot of sources mentioned within the copy.  There may be something in it that helps but I get the impression the islands were not well populated.  There were small enclaves scattered about them. https://www.researchgate.net/profile/James_Barrett5/publication/303803604_Viking_Age_and_medieval_Orkney/links/5753290f08ae17e65ec5b38c.pdf?origin=publication_list

You might try to get hold of this book or paper:  Julia Jennings The Historical Demography of two Island Populations: Orkney, Scotland and Saba; Netherlands Antilles. 28.04.2011

Sorry, I meant a list of existing profiles on wikitree.
I have not seen a location search per se but if you go to Search under find there is a place to put in any text.  I put in Orkney and got this thread back

https://cse.google.com/cse?cx=partner-pub-5983849578006601%3A2801067696&ie=UTF-8&q=+Orkney&sa=Go#gsc.tab=0&gsc.q=Orkney&gsc.page=1

There are families in WikiTree with Orkney as a location in the list that came back...

If instead of using "Orkney" you use "1300...1500 Orkney" it will return any page that references both Orkney and a date between 1300 & 1500. This is some use, but it also brings back lots of family pages. Hence my search above does the same, but restricts it to pages starting "www.wikitree.com/wiki/" - ie profiles, categories and a few others but not family pages (which start www.wikitree.com/genealogy/"

At this point there is no advanced search to my knowledge that can be conducted. The only possible ways would be search by name and than you can  Resort by First Name | Last Name at Birth | Birth Date | Death Date | Profile Manager

Hope this helps

Best of Luck

Thanks for the tip - when you say "search by name" - how would you do that?
You can find the search located at the top of the screen on this page https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Special:Home

All you have to do is edit out the surname and put the surname of choice in

ok, but that only works if you want to restrict the results to a specific surname. I'm after all the profiles (of any surname) in a particular place & time.
