american canadaian records conflict

I have two records of the same marriage event, same date (1928, Feb), same bride (Evelyn Pryor Mckenzie) and groom,(William Henry McKemzie) same parents of groom,

H-O-W-E-V-E-R

  • The Maine record (no image available, according to Family Search, info pulled from their site) shows brides parents being:
    • Arthur and Lillian Pryor (lillian born in canada)
  • The New Brunswick Canada record (actual image) brides parents being:
    •  Emmerson and Ethel Pryor.
  • To add a little juice to the situation, groom lists occupation as "border agent".

A) someone is lying....but why

B) Maine record is incorrectly sited,(need to get actual record copy from ME vital, just don;t want to pony up the $)

Thoughts on conflicting records like this?

If you go back into the 1920 census records, you can see evelyn born in 1910 child of Arthur and Lillian living in Presque Isle.

Evelyn born in 1911, child of Emerson and Ethel lives in Bridgewater.

Yes, but  how is it possible for BOTH Evelyns' to be married to the same William McKenzie ?

that is my conundrum?

thoughts?

Hi Rachel - I have just spent some time going through what records I could find on all those involved.  There are two different women named Evelyn Pryor and they were born within a year of each other but in different places and to different parents.  Also there are two (or more) different men named William McKenzie.  And it looks as though a transcriber got them mixed up.  I believe this happens quite often!!  What I do when I get frustrated is walk away from the situation for awhile, go have a cup of tea/coffee or a glass of wine LOL.  Now that you have me so interested, I am going to skirt around the sides and fill in sources for other family members to try to narrow this down.  Is that okay with you?
I don't see any information about the parents on the one from Maine. Is it an index or a record?
maine record is an index
yes...yes...thank you...thank you

Given that all this is during The Great Depression folks were hoping across the border cuz "grass is greener" and such.

But according to Canadian history they shut down the borders and did a huge deportation campaign.

So, since both Evelyn's have mothers born in Canada, I was pondering how that might have affected her story,

Also, the Lillian/Arthur ..Evelyn goes on to marry Jessie Doyen (Hamlin Maine) in 1929.  Bigamy ?, Annulment? This evelyn's trail stops there.

in 1940 (census) Lillian and Arthur have three year old "Jean Evelyn Doyen" with them,

Was Jean Evelyn Doyen the daughter of Jessie Doyen and Lillian/Arthur-Evelyn ?

or was Emmerson/Ethel-Evelyn, Jean Evelyn Doyen's mother?

It's just too weird to have so many very very similar players living only 10/20 minuets apart.

I welcome all your thoughts and efforts.

can't wait to see what you find.

thank you, thank you
Good morning Rachael - my declaration -

Being of sound mind and body (??) I hereby declare that I will go back in time and fill in what information I can find to help solve your conundrum. After that is done I hereby swear that I will "get a life".
awesome.

As this seems to be getting more and more interesting, I have created a new project for this.

Pryor/Mckenzie

I'll try to figure out how we (and other silly genealogist) work in the tree together.

Starting with the link.
