Lot of varied name spellings Askin, Askins, Erskens,  Erskin, Erskine, Erskins

Abington Vital Records to the Year 1850: Deaths

Erskin, Christopher, April 19, 1775, in 75th year. GR1 (p. 275)

Abington Births of nine children under Askin See: http://ma-vitalrecords.org/MA/Plymouth/Abington/Images/Abington_B016.shtml

Askins, Christopher and Susanna Robinson, Oct. 15, 1729. (p. 36)

Christopher Erskin, Sr  Birth: 1700, Scotland  Burial: Mount Vernon Cemetery  Death: Apr. 19, 1775 Abington, Plymouth County, MA

Note: many texts indicate he emigrated from Ireland, as did Susanna's father Gaius, rather than from Scotland as noted on findagrave.

Chris,

You have answered some very interesting questions for me. You have given me a brand new start on my family line based on the info on the gravestone and comments about the name change and coming from Scotland rather than from Ireland. Family history indicated a closer tie to The Earls of Mar than would have been indicated by just looking at the line.
I realize this is an old thread but I'm looking for the same info as the OP.  So many family trees have Christopher Askin, or Erskine (and his brother Robert) as the son(s) of Lord Erskine, Earl of Grange. And that these two brothers fled Scotland after the 1715 uprising and came to the colonies. It's neat and easy and it has the added benefit of connecting the Erskine lineage to virtually all the kings and queens of Scotland, England, and medieval England, back to Alfred the Great. From Earl of Grange there are direct lines to most of these monarchs.

But I don't think it makes sense and am happy to explain, but I'm not sure if this thread is still getting traffic, so will wait for a reply. Wondering if anyone has come up with an alternate parentage for the Christopher and Robert Askin that came to the colonies in the 1720s?
