Who was the father of Wesley D. Lowman, 1869-1898, Zebadee L. Lowman 1871-1932 and Charity Mary Lowman 1873-1961??

After Levi Sylvanus was killed in the Civil War in 1863, Sarah Elizabeth Martin claimed three more children, Wesley D Lowman, Zebadee Lowman and Charity Mary Lowman.  They all took Levi's name but as we know he died before they were born.  So who is their father?  Are they full brothers and sister?   Or were they adopted?  Were they Sarah's??

1880 Census, Icard ,Burke North Carolina,Sarah now listed as Sarah

Lowman,same children,Charity listed born 1873.After Sylvanus death she

must have re married too a Lowman.Zebadee born abt 1871,Leslie abt 1869.

So why doesnt the 1880 Census list her 'new' man?  Do you think he may have been gone to war? Im not sure when the war ended.  I guess we needed to live back then to know the answers to some of this. Thank you for your answer.
