Hi Matthew,

I together with other Hancocks have been researching the Hancocks of South Warwickshire in a one name study and we produce a regular newsletter (about three a year) for those researching the Hancocks of South Warwickshire and nearby parishes. . We also have information on the Hancocks of Northamptonshire, mainly in the South of the County.. The oldest West Haddon Hancock we have found is Jacob Hancock (wikiref - 1328) born about 1730.

I have a family tree for the Hancocks of West Haddon which has been derived from original parish records and census information, both now available on Ancestry.com. This is however at variance with the birthplaces of many of these West Haddon Hancocks shown on Wikitree which show birth places well away from the parish where baptisms in the parish are already known. If you wish, I can let you have a copy of the tree and you can tidy up Wikitree or I can do this on your behalf.

What is your interest in the Hancocks of West Haddon?

best regards

I'm just looking at this profile of yours, https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Hancock-1318 and it seems to be riddled with errors. He has a child born in Buckinghamshire when he was 4 years old, the next child born when he was 16 in Newfoundland, Canada, then several born in West Haddon, Northamptonshire and two born in London at a time the biography says he was living in Kimcote, Leicestershire.
Can I suggest you work on this profile to clear up the fact from the fiction - run the error report and address all the issues that brings up, provide primary sources to support the relationships and when that is done, do the same with the offspring and forbears. If you do all that, you will have a rock solid basis for developing further.

I am aware of the errors. I am waiting for my gedcom report to be completed so I can merge and correct errors in the tree. Thank you for your help.
Hi Matthew,

I am certain that Gillian is right. I think you will find from the West Haddon baptisms and burials that Jacob and Rebecca had three children named Jacob, the first two dying as infants:-
Jacob 1 bpt 20 Nov and buried 24 Nov 1763.
Jacob 2 bpt 20 Apr 1767 buried 28 Feb 1868/9
Jacob 3 bpt 4 Jun 1769

Jacob senior died June 1770

The surviving Jacob did however live at Kimcote, Leics, he married twice and had descendants there. He inherited from his aunt Mary(sister of Rebecca) see:-

Also might be worthwhile to remove any unnecessary references and just include those relevant to each individual.

With regard to William Hancock wikiref 1318 I cannot find a reference to his middle name Henry and I think this might be an error.

I hope this helps
