NC is between Virginia and SC. It's possible we are related or it's possible we are not. I'm a participant in the Franklin Family Genetics Project, and in that project, there may be up to 20 separate Franklin family lines. These lines have been determined by DNA tests. I'm in the FY02 subgroup. Here is the website for the project http://franklingenetics.org/.
Last May, the FY02 subgroup had a reunion in Southern Alabama. I met about 60 of my cousins I never knew existed. Through U.S. Census, birth/death, and marriage records, I have the paperwork to know my connection to 5 of those 60. I'm still working to try to determine my connection to the rest. At least I know were to look.
For the non-Franklin of my family, I took an autosomal DNA test and have transferred my DNA data to GEDMatch.com. Both where I took the test and at GEDMatch, I have lists of people to whom I'm related and can often contact them through email. The three companies that sell such a DNA test (autosomal) are 23andMe.com, Ancestry.com, and FamilyTreeDNA.com.
On a separate note, in getting family tree info from Ancestry.com, often people construct their trees without documentation and there are a lot more mistakes there than on WikiTree.com.
Good luck in your search.
