Here's a link to the 1841 census entry. His son is James and wife is Anne and the 1-yr old Charlotte and description as a 29 year old grocer proves the identification. They're possibly living in some sort of lodging house. He is transcribed as being born in Ireland - probably correctly - although from the squiggle on the digitized image it could be Scotland.

George Mahan M 29-33 Ireland
James Mahan M 3 Gloucestershire
Charlotte Mahan F 1 Gloucestershire
Anne Mahan F 28-32 Gloucestershire
Ignore the 29-33 and 28-32 - they were 29 and 28. In 1841 adult ages were meant to be rounded do the nearest 5. So some clown has programmed the logic that an age of N actually means between N and N+4. This is correct for rounded ages but of course doesn't apply where the enumerator has just given the correct age.
