May I reproduce a Wikitree photograph in a publication?

I am producing an Order of Service to Commemorate the Centenary of the Battle of Jutland on 31/5/16 on behalf of the Chaplain of the Fleet. Please may we repdouce a digital copy of your photograph of Cdr Loftus Jones, VC at http://www.wikitree.com/photo/jpg/Jones-20324-2? Its use would be in the Order of Service restricted to RN ships and shore establishments. We would, of course, be most grateful for your support, which would be appropriately acknowledged.

Hi Revd Simpson,

I checked that image and there is no information regarding whether rights are reserved by the person who uploaded it or whether it is public domain.

Although WikiTree policy is that copyrighted material is not permitted here without express permission of the owner and it is supposed to be noted on the image's page, unfortunately sometimes copyrighted information does get added here by people who don't realize that what they are doing is not right.

The person who uploaded that image is a very active and also very experienced member of WikiTree, so I would anticipate that he is the owner of the photograph and is likely to be happy to allow you to use it.

I recommend that you contact him by private message, which you can do HERE.

Hi,

WikiTree is not the copyright-holder of any photos uploaded by members. Your best bet would be to contact the member who uploaded the image, if the copyright information isn't posted.

Sorry I don't have a simpler answer for you.
