These two women are closely related according to published records. I am trying to separate and verify their individual ancestries. The families are largely concentrated in the Augusta County, VA., Botetourt County, VA., and Greenbrier County (W)VA.  Both were born in the British Isles - Ireland or Scotland and married prior to coming to Pennsylvania and later Virginia.  Margaret Lynn Lewis with her Irish-born children traveled with the  Lynns and Pattons who were relatives.  Margaret Lynn (Paul) Stuart traveled with David's brothers and her older children from her first marriage.

 Further I have the complication of Margaret Lynn Lewis's daughter-in-law, Sarah Murray (m. Colonel Charles Lewis who was killed at Battle of Point Pleasant).  Sarah Murray (Lewis), Mary Murray (Francisco), and John Murray were the children of Margaret McBarron Murray whose second marriage in New York produced sons Hugh and Charles Cameron who grew up in the Augusta County,VA area. She was widowed when her 2nd husband drowned while returning to Scotland on business, He came to America after the Battle of Culloden.

I am new to Wiki and keep getting lost in interesting threads and branches.

Sincerely,  Margaret Mason Engelhardt

You are correct in surmising a close relationship between Margaret Lynn, wife of John Lewis, and Margaret Stuart.  The 1757 will of Dr. William Lynn of Fredericksburg names (1) "my sister [blank] Lewis & my Nephews Thomas Lewis, Andrew Lewis, William Lewis & Charles Lewis ... all of Augusta Co. [Virginia]"; and (2) "the children of my kinswoman Margaret Stuart now living in Augusta County, in Virginia which she had by her former husband, the Rev. Mr. Paul".  Images and a transcript of the will are at http://www.house-of-lynn.com/Dr_William_Lynn.html;

Concerning Dr. Lynn’s 1757 bequest to "the children of my kinswoman Margaret Stuart now living in Augusta County, in Virginia which she had by her former husband, the Rev. Mr. Paul", you should also look at an extract of the 1767 will of David Stewart published in Chalkley’s Chronicles. David Stewart made bequests “To wife Margaret, and to her oldest daughter, Mary Pall [Paul], 1 tract lying over James River ... to son, John ... to daughter, Sebing [Sebring?] ... to daughter Elizabeth” other tracts of land.  It sounds to me like John, “Sebing”, and Elizabeth were David Stewart’s children or perhaps the children of Margaret and David together.  Mary, still bearing the surname Paul, obviously was single and probably living with Margaret and David when David wrote his will. That would explain Mary but not the other Paul children being named in the will.  I suspect Margaret Stuart, formerly Paul, was either a cousin or a niece of Dr. William Lynn, though finding proof would be quite the challenge. For David’s will extract, search this page for “Mary Pall” ... http://ftp.rootsweb.ancestry.com/pub/usgenweb/va/augusta/court/3court9.txt.
