I am entering someone from the 1910 California census whose birth location is listed as Ata English. Can someone take a guess where this is meant to be? I know there is an island named 'Ata but I'm thinking after looking at that island's history that is is fairly unlikely that this matches what is on the census.

Ata was an abbreviation used for Australia.  Don't know why, just what I was told by a librarian many years ago while going through census records.
