Recently a new problem has surfaced regarding ancestry links attached as sources.

this extends across all browser types.

All previous links in Wikitree profiles now have the following prepended by ancestry, and the links are rendered broken

https://click.linksynergy.com/deeplink? …..

Could this be a ‘domain name server’  issue?

I have two ipads, that present this issue

I don't think the links are broken.  You click on an Ancestry link as usual, and it goes via linksynergy to its correct destination.  Linksynergy is just a way that WT connects to Ancestry (probably something to do with monetising).  Nothing to worry about.

Ros,

The ancestry record is not reached only an error message is presented

Hmmm… can't reach this page

It looks like the webpage at https://click.linksynergy.com/deeplink?id=Xib7NfnK11s&mid=50138&murl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ancestry.com%2Fimageviewer%2Fcollections%2F48107%2Fimages%2FMayflowerFamiliesIII-003060-871 might be having issues, or it may have moved permanently to a new web address.

Try it again.  I just clicked on the link you provided, and it went through to Ancestry just fine.

This is a problem that people report from times to time. Try searching G2G for "linksynergy".

linksynergy is an affiliate link service. WikiTree uses it to link to Ancestry in order to get a small amount of income from Ancestry when people click on the links. This is part of how WikiTree is funded.

It is possible that the problem that you are having is to do with some security software that you have installed. Possibly also clearing cookies etc could help.

FYI the linksynergy is not part of how the link is authored on the profile. Regardless of whether a plain link or a template is used to link to Ancestry the wikitree servers with modify them to go via linksynergy.

Has invocation of an ancestry link been tested on WikiTree running on an Apple Ipad?

Ed, I use Safari on iPad and these links successfully redirect to Ancestry for me and end up at the right place. The problem is specific to your setup or Internet service provider, not general.

Can you try on a different browser, or a different Internet connection like cellular on a phone instead of broadband?
Works fine on iphone connected to same network, fails on edge, chrome, and safari.

But just discovered that the link works with the Brave browser!

Went back, still fails with the legacy browsers.
the link above works fine on Chrome on my iPad.
