Can I combine a One-Name Study with Descendency Studies?

Hello,

My question is, can I combine my one-name study with dependency studies?  Currently in my name study, I include all descendants, even if they don't have the last name that is part of the name study.

Thank you,

If you think about it, Jonathan's answer makes total sense. The right thing for a common name like Smith is very different than for an uncommon name like mine. I define members of the study as anyone who had the name "Garrigues" or one of the common variants even if they aren't descended, so spouses are included. Female children are also included, but their children aren't (unless I find one who took their mother's name, which I haven't yet).

This does not mean that I'm not interested in finding all descendants and I add them to wikitree when I identify them, but I don't consider them part of the study.

Each ONS administrator does it differently,  thats fine if you want to do that. I only keep the spouses in, but thats just how I decided to do it.

If you decided to add the DNA portion and create categories for dna groupings, that might also be something that you might add to those descendants without the surname, either because of NPEs or to help group the families together
