Bold text malfunction

Many times (but not always) when I try to bold text on a profile or FSP, instead of bolding the selected text, I get ‘’’Bold text’’’ appearing higher up on the page. This happens in Safari on my iPad, but not on my computer.

Has anyone had this problem, and if so, how did you fix it?

Hi Francesca. I presume you are using the B icon in the toolbar. I also use Safari on iPad, and haven't noticed this problem.

Do you have any browser extensions installed? Maybe they might affect things.

A workaround would be to type in manually the three apostrophes before and three apostrophes after the text to be bolded. (Swipe down on the k key if you have Enable Key Flicks turned in the the iPad keyboard settings.)

Thank you, Jim. Yes, I use the B icon in the toolbar and I have WT Sourcer and AGC installed.

Until I can figure out how to fix the problem I'll follow your suggestion of typing the apostrophes.

This happened to me ALL THE TIME when using my iPad, and I only recently found a fix: highlight the text you want to bold, then DEACTIVATE THE KEYBOARD by clicking on the little keyboard icon at the bottom right of the keyboard, now hit the BOLD  B button in edit mode and the highlighted text should get bolded. (When you close the keyboard, the highlight disappears from the text area and you may think it is gone, but it isn’t. Click the B button anyways.)

That sounds perfect, but I am using one of those Magic Keyboards and can't think of how to transfer your workaround to that.

Obviously the straight quotation marks are automatically converted into the curved ones, so that you get one opening and 5 closing marks.

Maybe you can find a possibility to deactivate this in the keyboard settings? Or maybe a different setting like auto format during insertion …?

Eric's workaround works on the iPad if I remove the Magic Keyboard, but I haven't been able to figure out how to deactivate the keyboard settings on the Magic Keyboard and it's not practical to remove it every time I edit in WT.
In line with Siegfried's suggestion, turning off the iPad setting

General > Keyboard > Smart Punctuation

may help (if it isn't turned off already).
Thank you again, Jim. I did turn off Smart Punctuation (didn't even realize it was turned on). Unfortunately that did not prevent the issue. Maybe the next iOS update will fix it. :)

Smart Punctuation is a different thing. Which settings are available?

But maybe it is not at the keyboard settings. indecision

Thanks for the star.

I'm giving up. I'll just try to do as much editing as possible on the computer.
All I can add is that I worked on an iPad for a long time and the B button always worked, as did '''the single quote'''  option. I do remember having to set an option somewhere -- don't remember where.
