I have a 5 x great Grandmother who I have confirmed records of marriage and parent to the relative I have on my tree.

But being born in Ireland 1778 I can't find here there but I cannot find her death in Scotland supposedly 1850 in Lalarkshire.

Oh name is Margaret Tennant and she married James Frew in 1798 Old Monkland Scotland

Where did you get the death date from?

Margaret Frew died 12 Dec 1850 in Gorbals, Scotland.  She was age 1. No parents in Scotlands People index

Margaret Frew (age 1) died or was buried on 12 Dec 1850 in Gorbals, Lanarkshire, Scotland.<ref>"Church of Scotland: Old Parish Registers - Deaths and Burials," database, National Records of Scotland, ([https://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/ ScotlandsPeople] : accessed 16 April 2024), Margaret Frew death or burial (died age 1) on 12 Dec 1850 in Gorbals, Lanarkshire, Scotland; citing Parish Number 644/2, Ref 110/308.</ref>

I have added the records that I was able to find from Scotlands People to that profile

  1. marriage in 1798
  2. children birth sources, as well as death sources
Research Notes added for
  1. Margaret Tennant, not Frew, who died 1851.  Probably not same person
  2. additional child James not listed 1799-1874.  No sourcing found for James that was in the profile 1807-1877, which is probably incorrect child since he would have had to be a twin of other child and would have been listed.  Ancestry tree that has that James has a birth of Jun 1807 in Ireland, when Helen was born Aug 1807 in Scotland, indicating that James is not correct.
I have now added sources to son Robert's profile, including a list of children with birth / death sources for each.
thank you for your work

You are welcome.  Please check out the Scotland Project g2g about the Tartan Trail, which might help you.

Hi Linda, I've just joined the Tartan Trail.

It looks like I'll have to go back to my earlier research. I have Ann Jane (1846-1880)- my 3x Great Grandmother having parents James Frew and Agnes McCaig.

I have gotten the details of James and Agnes from a family bible from a nice lady on Ancestry. I"ll uploaded it to Agnes McCaigs profile

Also on the NSW Birth, Deaths and Marriages site under deaths Reg NO 11021/1880 it has Ann J Goode (Frew) with the parents of James and Agnes

Scotland has lots of people with same names unfortunately. Then they marry people with same names and name their children the same because of the naming conventions used frequently. I suspect that James is not from the same family and has been attached in numerous family trees online.

Margaret Tenant, record on Find My Past

Note spelling-one N married James Frew, marriage banns on 13 Jul 1798, both of Old Monkland OPR 652/1,

I'm not finding a death or burial record for an adult, there is a Margaret Frew died 12 Dec 1850 in Gorbals, Scotland, but that is a long time after the marriage date.

There is an Andrew Frew baptised 04/06/1815 son of James Frew and Margaret Tennant at Old Monkland.

Robert Frew baptised 11/01/1801 son of James Frew and Margaret Tennant at Old Monkland.

Margaret Frew baptised 19/12/1802 daughter of James Frew and Margaret Tennant at Old Monkland.

Helen Frew baptised 09/08/1807 daughter of James Frew and Margaret Tennant at Old Monkland.

Mary Ann Frew baptised 01/12/1812 daughter of James Frew and Margaret Tennant at Old Monkland.

Andrew Frew baptised 04/06/1815 son of James Frew and Margaret Tennant at Old Monkland.

Jane Frew baptised 27/04/1817 daughter of James Frew and Margaret Tennant at Old Monkland

I have not found a death or burial between 1817 and 1855 for a Margaret Tennant or Frew or variations in Lanarkshire

I think, but not yet fully checked that Ireland may not be where this (expected) Margaret was born, maybe 2 different people?

take alleged son James 1807-1877, on his death in 1877, it says he is married to Helen/Ellen Dempsey, you can follow this James (born in Ireland through the Censuses).. Ellen was his 2nd wife, so perhaps Agnes McCabe/McCaig was his first?

on his death there is no parents names given, on his marriage to Ellen/Helen Dempsey his parents are James Frew (a Farmer, not a Coal master) and an Agnes.. (can't read the last name but it's not Margaret Tennant)

I can find no connection with a Samuel born 1804 in Ireland, so if you take Ireland out of the equation (for now).. tbc..

you can then find a Margaret Tennant born in 1774 to parents Robert Tennant and Margaret Allan.

AIRDRIE OR NEW

Not sure if this would be correct of course, but the location and names of Margaret / James Frew (the Coal Master) would fit better if these were her parents, rather her being Irish.. can't quite yet find Margaret on the 1841 census to see if there's hints as to her birthplace

sorry the picture has got cut off, my bad.. the 1774 birth for a Margaret to parents Robert Tennant and Margaret Allan was in 1774 in "Airdrie or New Monkland" (Lanarkshire)

like I said this may not be the right person but an option if you take the Ireland connection out?

I find it odd that if she was the wife of an "esteemed"" Coal Master (the owner or manager of Coal Mines as opposed to a more lowly Coal Miner) that her death info is not more easily found, unless it was a long time before her husband

I've found 1 possible to perhaps look at? (note gender is male so perhaps why it's not showing easily in regular searches?)  again this may not be her, and the cert itself may not giive any further clues.. however it's the only one close in age who died close to her expected age and after the birth of her last child (1817) that I can find in ScotlandsPeople

TANNANT, MARGT, age 49

Gender: M

Death (or burial): 23/12/1821
