When I attempt to upload a photo to an existing G2G thread I get a big red box with a white X in the top left corner ? Does anyone know why the photo doesn't display properly ?? What am I doing wrong ??

Any help appreciated.

If the photo you are trying to upload is on your profile, it will not show in g2g because of the privacy level.  Images posted to g2g need to be on a public page.

If you don't have an open privacy space page for images, you can add images to this space page - https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Images4G2G

Never mind.  I just saw your other posts on the selfies thread.  When posting an image in a post, you need the FULL url with the image type, so: https://www.wikitree.com/photo.php/a/a8/Connecting_Selfies-23.jpg

If you're using the truncated version - https://www.wikitree.com/photo/jpg/Connecting_Selfies-23 - it will only work if you copy and paste the actual image:
500px-Connecting_Selfies-23.jpg

Thanks a million Melanie. My question is then where do I find the full URL if the webpage free space page URL is not the right option? Is it somewhere on the free space page also ?
Click the image as seen after upload.
Provided the photo is not privacy protected.

You can copy paste from a WikiTree page to the G2G post. Have 2 windows open and just copy the image from the page with the photo to the G2G post.

Much simpler than going the copy the URL route.
