Create a new Profile for Thomas Dick?

I have an ancestor, a Thomas Dick, who married Janet Hamilton: Hamilton-36554. There is a Thomas Dick profile: Dick-5454 already created that had no manager, so I signed up. I have no proof that Dick-5454 is the same Thomas who married Janet Hamilton (he just is a possibility). Do I create a new profile for a Thomas Dick who m. Janet Hamilton and risk a duplicate later on if 5454 turns out to be indeed my 5G? Or just create links to each other in the bio and hope some future researcher (in Scotland) can find the answer?

Dick-5454 has a birth record and known parents. You could spend the time to develop the profile, and find out he's not who you hope he is. If it was me I would want to create my relative and spend my time developing them. If a merge pops up down the road its not "wrong" that you created your relative when nothing else exactly matching his details popped up at the time. So really, your choice. Best of Luck

I found the book that you mentioned in archive.org, which is easier to search and reference.  I have added that link to the profile, as well as Research Notes, with some of the information found on the 1st page.  There are no sources in the book, so all dates, etc should be treated as 'hints', not reliable. It references letters that people have. It mentions the mother as a Hamilton.  I did not see her 1st name mentioned. It did say the father was Thomas.  I included some of the information in the Research Notes.
